  • Who is testing in July. Need Info?

Well since the last few threads about when people are going to test did so well, I figure that I would start one for the testing process starting on July 10th.

If you have already been through the process or want to add any info, please feel free. I know that I have questions.

I will be flying to Vegas on July 9th with my girlfriend. It is going to be a testing/vacation trip. I plan on staying in Vegas until Fri the 13th or until the oral board is complete, then driving to visit my father in the Dallas/Ft Worth area in TX, by way of Flagstaff, AZ and Albuquerque, NM.

It is my first time visiting Vegas and that far west, so any info for my trip onto to Tx would be great, like places to stop and see or things to do. The Canyon is already planned.

I had planned on renting a car for the time in Vegas. Is this worth it? I will be staying at a hotel on the strip, so should I just use public trans or taxis to get back and forth from the testing sites? I also want to hit Gordon Biersch which is off the strip, but I don't want to pay $30 for a taxi. So basically is the car worth it for the week? or should I use the taxis for travel?

Also I wanted to hear from any Officers who were Police Officers somewhere else prior to joining LVMPD. I haqve some more specific questions.

    Thanks for the info.

Hi. I believe we've actually talked through PM...I think. Sorry I can't remember, I deal with a lot a people daily lol. I can't say I know anything on the way to Texas. If you want to go around and see places, a car might help. You'll need to get to the testing place (Cashman Field for the written test) and Convention Center Dr for the Oral board. I wouldn't bother with taxi's, personally. That adds up and it would be cheaper to rent a car.

Yeah. We chatted on the PM. I sent my app in today, so I'll be there in July for sure.

I'll be testing...again...in july. I would try to get a room at the Stratosphere or even one of the older casinos, like the golden nugget, or fitzgeralds, since they are closer to cashman than some of the new hotels further south on Las Vegas blvd. And yes, rent a car. you can't really depend on public transportation.

Here is some great news: they are doing the fitness test indoors!
First you do the jamar, then the BTT, then the sprint. They set this up so you have to run around a curve inside the building, so make sure you have shoes with soles that won't slip on concrete. Then they have mats for the push-ups and sit-ups. After that you do seven laps inside cashman for the mile run.

Since the July test is coming soon, I'm going to breath life into this thread. The PT test will indeed be indoors so bring your PT gear (and a sandwich and water) with you. There is going to be a PT Test prep on Saturday June 30th at 6AM (damn that's early!). I may be able to make it to that one, I'm not sure. However, if you wanna BS and talk or whatever, feel free. I'll probably be in long sleeve underarmour.

I will also be at the July 10th written test at 8AM (I'll probably get there around 7:15AM). I will have my protectthecity.com lanyard around my neck with my Metro ID. I'll be wearing a blue shirt and beige pants. Again, if you want to talk, introduce yourself, ask me on a date (females only please), clean my car, shake my hand, or whatever, feel free . I'll be the Italian looking guy with the mustache and beard/goatee/whatever young people call it.

Make sure you are hydrated before the PT test. Drink/bring a boatload of water and pound it down.

My first post, as I am new to this application process. I'll be there.
While I was in phase 5 of FTO, I was driving to a burglary in progress and the first three units were nearing the house:

SGT (on the radio): "Ok, lets have two in the front, and one in the rear."

Me (not on the radio): "Sounds like the Sgt wants the shocker!"

My FTO almost rolled out of the car laughing.

I don't know about anyone else, but I have been gearing up for the July 10th testing. I just took a PT test for my department and smoked it, wrote out all the oral board questions so I'am not saying um while I think of the answer, and last but not least the written test. I have not been studying for the written too much since I've been working insane amounts of overtime to pay for the trip. I guess I should start soon.

I've made a few contacts with some LVMPD officers through some friends, so I think I'am gonna try to score a ride along and maybe check out one of the area commands.

How is everyone else doing? I'll see you guys on the 10th.

Definitely try to go on a ridealong if you can. I'm not sure of the proper procedure for out of town candidates (IE if you can choose which area command or if it's assigned to you), however. Anyhow, see you all tomorrow. Make sure you bring your PT gear and stay hydrated.

When I was in town for the May test I just went over to the area command of my choice and put in an application. I chose Northeast Area Command since it was close to the Cashman. They called me back the same day and set one up for the day in between my PT test and oral board. They were very accommodating.

The last time I was in town for the psych and BI I tried to do one with South Central Area Command, but I guess they're pretty busy and didn't call me back until the next week... when I was back in Texas They were very nice, though, and invited me to drop by when I get back into town.

Ah yeah, SCAC is very busy, since it covers the strip. Everyone wants to do a ridealong on the strip. Luckily I have been able to do a ridealong there. It was graveyard shift on a Saturday night. It was extremely busy.

Wow that was a lot of people... Any word on what the count was? I roughly counted 650ish.

Also, it was a little odd to see the reporters there. I look forward to reading any articles about it.

There were a ton of people. 650ish sounds about right, give or take. I actually got on TV haha. I stopped by my work just to say hi since it was close by and everyone said they saw me on TV. I even got a call from my godfather saying I was on TV. I guess I was taking the test or something. I don't remember doing any interviews...although I was pretty zoned out after the test. A lot of people passed the PT test too. I think it was pretty successful Tuesday.

                              Bump...

My BI told me there was between 700 and 800 people testing with us

I just got done with my written psych, my oral psych, my background interview, and my polygraph.... It seems like I am flying through this process considering I applied less than a month ago. I hope to find out shortly how the psych and the poly went, and then if I passed I am in for the dreaded background wait. :/

Anyone else from the July test hear anything?
