No rankings with NLVPD. Everyone who passes backgrounds will have their file presented at the Chiefs Review for selection

Who decides if your background is passed? My BI told me the command staff decides

Barely taking my physical next Wednesday. Have a hard time believing that I’m being placed in January academy

Passed the Physical fitness test. Waiting to start backgrounds have a hard time believing I’ll make it in the January academy. Anybody know how many seats they’re trying to fill?

I too would like to know if there is an estimated guess as to how many people they are looking for. It's a small department--so I imagine it's kinda like Henderson Police Dept...not very many slots open.

I've heard for the January 2020 academy they could be looking to fill as many as 25 spots just for NLVPD.

They go over your entire background pack asking questions if they need more details about anything. It’s around 2 hours. You have the chance to let them know anything they will need clarification on, etc. They also gather all documents. After the interview you should be scheduled for your polygraph/voice stress

Thanks do they do polygraph or is it strictly voice test?

                It’s only CVSA (voice stress)

            • #39
              Thnblulne7 are you sure it's not both a polygraph and a CVSA test? According to NLVPD's site it's " a polygraph/CVSA examination"
              http://www.cityofnorthlasvegas.com/d...ng_process.php

Does seem a bit excessive and quite costly to do both...but I dunno. Metro uses just the polygraph. I've passed two poly's already --I'm not hiding anything--but it is super stressful sitting there trying to not make it seem like your trying to appear honest.
...especially when you 100% are being honest.
SO if they're just doing the voice one--it's gotta be less stressful.

It’s only the voice stress but they put that because it’s the same concept of a polygraph— trying to see if someone is being dishonest. They don’t do both. I wondered the same thing as well!

Yeah it’s going to be stressful but it is quick and you will get through it. I just try to think about the end goal of the academy in January!! Can’t wait. Chiefs review/selection is in October.

Per my BI it’s just voice stress wasn’t scheduled though at the interview so it’s a waiting game

According to his/her profile, he/she currently works as a police dispatcher. That makes me curious as well. Surprised to see a police dispatcher getting DQd for an officer position. But, it is personal info so I understand their silence.

That's not unheard of. I met a federal police officer that was DQ'd in backgrounds for a local PD. Whatever issues he had was ok with his current agency, but he did not meet the background standards for his dream agency.
