I currently live in Arizona. Can anyone share their experiences (good or bad) with the hiring process of Nevada Highway Patrol for an Out of State App? Any suggestions would be great.

I tested with them back in November and got an 88 on the written test. I filled out the background packet and everything, but I never got a call to come out and interview. -
I called about a month a go and I was told that they had not gotten that far down on the list. I kind of find that statement a little hard to believe.
My score on the test was very good. Their test had to be the most difficult one I have ever taken. It takes some brains to do well on this test.Comment

NV DPS has thousands and thousands of applicants continuously. I tested with them in Jan, had my oral board in April, they started my Pre-B.G.check in May, had my one on one B.G. check in Julyish (if thats a word). then my Poly in Aug. Called in Sept to see if I was still interested in employment, And started with them in Dec. Yes! They are very busy. Yes! It is worth the wait. I was from out of state and I had to make seperate trips for each step. The good news is, it is tax deductible as job hunting expenses!!! Other's I work with have waited longer. The H.R. Dept is very good at contacting you as they progress you through each step. Just make certain you keep them informed of any address and phone # changes.Comment

Testing
There was a mention of the testing difficulty. Are you talking about the written or physical? Is there a study aid I can use? I have the State Trooper book, if that's a good start. Also, I can expect that there process can take almost a year, even with out of state applicants?

It is an excellent agency to work for. My sis in law is a dispatcher and loves working for them. I would imagine that it is a very competitive hiring process, they don't have as many openings as say Las Vegas Metro, and they are a highly sought after agency. "Trouble" if you "just" applied in November, I wouldn't be surprised if you got a call in July or later. Most state agencies take forever on their hiring process. Here in Idaho ISP takes on average 11 months to get someone hired.Comment
