  • Nye County Sheriff's Deputy Shot

A 9-1-1 call from Las Vegas visitors at Terrible's Lakeside RV park at 2:26 a.m. Friday alerted the Nye County Sheriff's Office in Pahrump that multiple gunshots were being fired in the upscale park.

When deputies arrived to search the area, the suspect, who was lying in wait in the shrubbery and decorative boulders around occupied camping trailers, opened fire on the officers.

Nye County Sheriff, Tony DeMeo said one officer was "ambushed and shot in the back from about 8 to 10 feet away." A female officer pulled the deputy to safety.

The suspect was shot twice in the leg after running from tree to boulder in the darkness, shooting from various locations with two firearms. At first count, about 50 shell casings from the suspect's 45 caliber automatic and .357 revolver were recovered. Thirty-two of the casings were found in the suspect's travel trailer.

The deputy and suspect, whose names were not released, were air lifted to University Medical Trauma Center in Las Vegas.

The suspect has been released from the hospital and is in the Pahrump Jail.

The wounded deputy has not yet been released. He expressed his gratitude to Metro Police in Las Vegas for treating him "like family." The investigation is ongoing.
I wish the deputy a speedy recovery.....
