Hastings is really the only department that consistently has openings on this list, but they will certify you. Hall County has very low turnover rate. I think the last guy they hired off here was a guy I went to the academy with two years ago. Dawson County good luck! They just do the list for show and tell and to say they have a eligibility list. Unless you know someone, or are friends of someone on the department your chances of getting hired are very slim.

This would be a great job. You get to go all over the state and get to go to all of the big fires. They drive unmarked F-150 pickup trucks with dash lights, visor lights, and other emergency equipment. The down side is most of your calls are over an hour away, so you have to drive all that way with your siren on. This department doesn't have that many spots open and hardly test for law enforcement officers.

Ralston - nice little department Omaha basically surrounds the entire city. Every now and then they get things that happens there.

Blair - a decent sized agency and they are paid well to start right out of training.

Plattsmouth - they normally hire people from our agency. It's not to often if at all that they hire off the list.

Douglas County - the largest sheriff's office in the state. They are paid ok, but Omaha keeps taking their patrol districts more and more.

Council Bluffs - one of the better places in the area as far as I'm concerned. They have a lot of area to cover and seem to always be annexing and with the casinos they have a lot of new development. From talking with some of the guys I know that work over there, they say they get paid ok and like the department. I would apply here but I don't think I would pass the mile and half run in the time given.

Cass County - if you want to know just PM me. I can tell you anything you want to know. I know we are looking to hire at least one maybe more.

As for the testing they say the list is good for six months, but if you don't score in the upper 80s or higher from what I'm told then more than likely your not going to get a call back. I'm told when they first started this testing there at least 400 or so people that tested, but when I tested I think they said they only got right around 100 people. I think thats because no one wants to pay the $40 to test.

            POLICE OFFICER/DEPUTY SHERIFF

I can tell you anything you want to know about this department. This was the first agency I worked for. The main problem they have with keeping people is if your not a fisherman, a hunter, or like the outdoors, there's not much for you to do there. The pays not great, but cost of living is a lot lower so that makes it comparable. The closes Walmart is 3 1/2 hours one way or 2 1/2 hours the other way. I would go back to work here, but having to choose between my wife and going back here I'm happily married. If you have any questions about this agency PM me, I still keep in contact with them.

Metro area law enforcement agencies are now hiring! Register now for the upcoming exam. Agencies include Douglas County and Cass County Sheriffs Office; Ralston, Blair, Plattsmouth and Council Bluffs Police Departments. Registration packets are available online, or at Morrow & Associates, 12020 Shamrock Plaza, Suite 105, Omaha, NE. Minimum qualifications and fees apply. Closing date is August 1, 2008. Exam date is August 16, 2008. For information call (402) 330-1019, or visit www.morrowhr.com. EOE.

They are always hiring. From what I understand they stay fairly active. The sheriff there from what I'm told doesn't want his guys to leave their contract towns without permission from their supervisors. So for the most part you have a deputy title, but are basically like a police department.

I spoke with someone from Carter Lake today about their reserve officer program. They said they have only had 16 apply people compared to 150 last time they tested. They are looking to hire 6 reserves. They said if they get the Casino they are going to hire six of their nine reserves as full-time officers. The only bad thing is they are not paid, but they do Iowa certify you. They provide your weapon and some of the other gear.
