  • Potential OPD class (lateral)

Due to the recent incident in Omaha, the chief wants to bring in more experienced officers, drawing from local departments. This class is supposed to be condensed and start in the fall. Anybody hear anything recently beyond this or even interested in applying?

What's been going on in Omaha? My wife wants to move there. At the time I looked at lateraling from California but they hadn't done a lateral class in about 10 years
I'd rather be judged by 12 rather carried by 6.

It should be noted that any and all post that are made are based on my own thought and opinions. And are not related or implied to represent the department I work for.

OPD doesn't really lateral often. The last lateral, if I remember correctly, was done after it absorbed Elkhorn's police force. So really, they only do laterals for those certified in Nebraska. Having experience in a different out-of-state agency might make you more competitive, but I don't think they'll shorten your academy time or start you off higher.
