I'm kind of surprised by the announcement that they will be accepting applications. From what I've heard and read in the news, the city is in all sorts of financial trouble and has slashed the PD budget.

Will this testing be for an academy in the near future or just an eligibility list for who knows how long down the road...?

The JAN applications will more than likely be for the MAY or JUN class.

I doubt it will be that quick. Their current eligibility list is probably expiring.

They can. I applied in Jan and made it into the June class the other year.

We have a few people on our Department who applied and they are working on their backgrounds. From what I'm hearing this will be for the class that's suppose to start in a few weeks here.

Isn't there suppose to be in a class mid-year that is at least partially funded by a federal grant or something?

                    Couple of questions.

How many applicants do they usually get?

How many people are in a typical academy class?

Do they factor in college education when rankings tests/applicants?

Also for the first few tests... the written, physical, video and writing tests, coming from out of state, is that something they do on back to back days or would I need multiple trips back down there?

Any other general info would be welcomed, not enough jobs in MN so starting to look around.

                      1000-1500 applicants
Last couple classes have been over 50. Next class has 54

I don't think college degree factors into rankings. Test scores decide rankings. College incentive pay when you reach your 2 year mark.

I believe they let out of towners take some of the tests all at once instead of making you travel to omaha every month.
PM me with any other questions

thanks for the response PD81. I'll probably call someone at the department later just to confirm the out of towner testing process.

City of Omaha Human Resources Department at (402) 444-5300 should be able to give you details on the testing process
