    The New Orleans Police Department is currently hiring up to 150 Officers per year. We offer ongoing testing and a consolidated testing schedule for out of town applicants. Currently the starting pay for a Police Recruit is 40,391. The current pay scale is as follows:


    Police Recruit (Academy) $40,392

    Police Recruit (Field Training to 1 Year) $46,885

    Police Officer (1 Year) $56,057
    Police Officer $56,566 - $62,924


    Senior Police Officer $61,588 - $68,610

    Police Corporal $67,136 - $74,891

    Police Sergeant $73,262 - $81,828

    Police Lieutenant $80,029 - $89,490


    (The salaries above represent the entry and top salaries for each position and include State Supplemental Pay and Millage. The top salary for each classification is based on that of a 25 year veteran with the corresponding longevity steps/pay)


    In addition to the above commissioned members are eligible to receive the following based on assignment/education:


    Education Incentive Pay (Paid Annually):
    • $1,000 Associates
    • $2,000 Bachelors
    • $3,000 Masters or Doctorate

    Special Assignment Pay (Paid Annually)
    • $1,500 Field Training Officer
    • $1,500 Special Operations Division
    • $1,500 Marine Unit (Divers)
    • $1,500 K-9 (Handlers)
    • $1,500 Mounted (Horse)
    • $1,500 Traffic (Motorcycle)
    • $1,500 Bomb Squad
    • Detective Pay - 10% of base salary
    • Public Integrity Bureau 10% base salary
    • Training Academy Instructor 10% base salary

    The qualifications to apply are as follows:

    Minimum Requirements

    Recruit
    1. Must be at least 20 years of age
    2. High school graduate or possess a state approved G.E.D.
    3. Be licensed to drive and have a good driving record and driving experience
    4. In good physical and psychological condition to perform the essential functions of the job of Police Officer
    Lateral Transfers
    1. Have current Peace Officers and Standard Training Council (POST) certification or certification from an equivalent state board AND two (2) consecutive years of full-time patrol and/or investigative law enforcement experience beyond academy and field training
    2. Be at least 20 years old
    3. Be a high school graduate or have a state-approved G.E.D.
    4. Be licensed to drive and have a good driving record and driving experience
    5. In good physical and psychological condition
