Just curious. About what percent of CSO's actually get hired into a sworn positions by the dept they CSO at? Anyone have any ideas on that?

Minneapolis does, Oakdale does, and I'm sure many do that I am not aware of.
Being a CSO gives a department an opportunity to see what kind of employee you are prior to being hired as a sworn cop. So if someone is a wing-nut as a CSO I would imagine that the department would balk at hiring them (although I wonder sometimes.....)
That is not to say that a non-CSO cannot beat a CSO out for a sworn position, but from a departments perspective I would imagine it is a win-win for them. If you are such a jagoff that they don't want you I would imagine it is far easier to terminate said jagoff than if said jagoff was a cop. On the flip side, if it turns out that they like your attitude, work ethic, blah blah blah blah, then they may hire you over an unknown.

Disclaimer: I have never been a CSO nor been employed by a department that even has CSO's.

Not necessarily at the department you work at either, as other departments tend to look highly on CSO's. After working for a department as a CSO, it actually helped make my decision that I did not want to become a sworn officer there.
