  • anyone catch the new show on TLC?

I mean really? Mall Cops:Mall Of America, not following the Bloomington Cops but the MOA security guards in a COPs like TV show. Wow, The best was some teenage girl singer asking the secuirty officer "can you arrest people?" "Do you have a gun?" They ended the show with a officer trying to find a baby who had lost a sock.... I watched about 15 minutes of the show and even when they had the real cops on the call they made it lok like the secuirty officers saved the day.

Now don't get me wrong I worked security at a mall before I got hired as a cop, but there is no way that I would want to be on TV for a show like that.
Happy to be here proud to serve

"Well it appears this lock does not accept american express."

Never trust fire fighters to point out a suspect.

There's already a thread on this in the off-duty forums, but I saw the last 10 minutes of it tonite.

I wasn't really paying attention, my brother turned it on. So I can't say if it was any good. Looked pretty melodramatic to me.

I think two of those security cops have since been hired on PD's in MN.

I tried to give it a chance but it was pretty bad. The narration and dramatic style was painful. When the so called "celebrity" asked to go on a roller coaster they should have escorted her back to the rotunda area, pushed her through a service door, and then left her alone to the 12-year-old mob. Now that would make for good television.

There's a pretty good thread over on securityinfowatch.com about this. A new forum member there says MOA security has a counter terrorism unit. Oh, and they are more trained then the police.

They're not even close to being trained like a Police Officer. Yes they've gone through some defensive tactics training, maybe some verbal judo crap on how to deal with customers, but comparing their training to that of an FTO program of a Police Dept, especially larger ones, is not even close. If you were to throw one of those security officers in a squad for a whole shift they wouldn't have a clue. I'm just saying...
It's better to be tried by twelve than carried by six...

I laughed my *** off at the female giving the construction workers crap about not having an ID card displayed. This is the biggest example of security guards thinking they are cops I have ever seen. I don't care how much training you have, as a security guard you giving me an order means just as much as a homeless person telling me the sidewalk is his house.

Anyone find this online yet? I haven't watched it but, like a train wreck, I really need to see it.

I thought it was entertaining. I laughed when the blonde woman with her 15 year old crying, wanted to see that chick that was coming to the MOA, and they did not get wrist bands. The Mom made an idiot of herself on TV and I hope she gets hell for it. I wanted to look up her number and call her, just to laugh at her!

I work for Whelan Security (Dome, UofM, Etc..) and they put in a bid for MoA a while back. They denied the contract beacuse they were looking to have officers making $8.25

I would imagine that the contract was only for their weekend ID checking at the doors, correct?

                          Thats probably true.

Now they have MOA Security Part Timers doing that. When I applied, they called me back for a Part Time, I was sure what I was getting into.
