A word of advice, DON'T fall asleep on the second day of the police academy! We already have someone carrying the "brick". Don't be the ONE. There is always someone who is asked to leave the academy or gets arrested.

Word travels very fast, it can make for a long FTO, if they make it that far.

So did they choose from an eligibility list or when did the posting go out? I've been watching pretty closely for the past 4 or 5 months 'cause I heard they were planning to open up again "after the new year" but I never saw any postings

And yeah, sucks to be the guy/gal that was checkin' their eyelids for holes - that never looks good if it comes up in a background.

The SPPD academy is from a test about 2.5 years ago (July? 2007) plus laterals and promotionals. The 18 who were supposed to start in January got a shot, if they were still interested/available.

IIRC, they ran another test last Oct/november-ish. So, I'm guessing that it's going to be a while before they open up another process again.

As for the sleeper.... wow, just wow.

Good luck to all those guys, hope a lot of people from my group in January were still able to attend the academy. And yeah, the sleeper... unbelievable. With how many people want to be in the same spot that would be more respectful...

I'm pretty sure that SPPD isn't going to let a recruit go for falling asleep in a class.

I know I definetly came close to snoozing during class at our academy...there were people who did for sure. We were on the go from 0545-2200 each day too though. Not saying SPPD's academy is easier by any means, I have no clue what they do there. I just know residential academy life is not comfortable....Need to get some NO-DOZ!!

We had a guy in our academy who worked weds, thurs, friday and sat nights for the jasper co jail. So from weds morning through sunday morning he got no sleep (except for when he fell asleep in the academy). I gotta give him respect though.... he graduated even with the severe lack of sleep

It is amazing how tough and persistant that people can be. Academy, is tough mentally and physically and unfortunately you cannot put the pause button on life and family while you go through it.
