    ANCHORAGE ALASKA HIRING

    22 POLICE OFFICERS

    - No College Degree Required-

Anchorage, is a modern city that still has that small town feel. From great shopping, schools, and unlimited outdoor activities, we have something for everyone. APD is hiring police officers for an academy scheduled for November 24, 2008. Our academy is a non-residential program and you will be paid while attending the academy. The starting hourly wage for new recruits is $27.02 and for lateral officers $28.45.

The APD Recruiting Unit will be traveling in September to Minnesota and Michigan. Details on dates and locations are listed below. Those interested in testing in one of these locations need to submit a request to test form with the city name you plan on testing in noted on the top of the request to test form.

Normally out of state applicants have to make two separate one week trips to Anchorage to complete the hiring process. By testing at one of the locations below, the applicant will reduce the number of trips they have to make to Anchorage down to one. This testing process is to hire for an academy anticipated to start November 24th, 2008.

If you have any questions contact Officer Steve Haas by email at [email protected] or by phone 907-786-2463 or Sgt. Couturier by email at [email protected] or by phone at 907-786-2444.

The testing schedule will be the same each day. The successful applicant should plan on a two to three day process. Applicants passing the written testing will be scheduled for an interview. For the interview the applicants must bring their driver's license, a completed (and notarized) background questionnaire (available under the forms link), most recent evaluation from their employer, original or certified copy of high school diploma or GED, original or certified copy of DD214 (if applicabale). Although advance registration is preferred, walk-ins will be accepted if they meet the requirements.

Applicants that successfully interview will complete an extensive psych written battery. APD staff will notify individual applicants of their invitation to attend the final processing in Anchorage. Those applicants should plan travel to Anchorage, Alaska for final processing from October 10th through the 17th. Processing in Anchorage will include physical agility testing, psych assesment, medical evaluation, and polygraph examination. Further information will be provided during the briefing.

    Schedule of Events Each Day

The only issue I have about out of state recruiting/hiring is the travel. I dont have the extra money laying around to fly out to these places. Kept me from applying for a couple in AZ and one in TX already :/

That is the exact reason that we travel from Alaska to do these recruiting trips. We cut the costs for the applicants in half and significantly reduce their risk of flying all the way up to Anchorage to only get eliminated on the 1st day of testing. But at some point they still have to fly up to Anchorage to finish the hiring process.

Academy date change. The start date has been moved back to Dec 1, 08 so everyone can enjoy the Thanksgiving weekend. Turkey and football for me!

Well, we don't have any pro teams here, a lot of people are Seattle fans because of proximity. Unfortunately for me I am Dolphins fan (and a closet Cowboys fan).

1st rule about being a lions fan, never publicly acknowledge that you are a lions fan....

It sucked living in Metro-Detroit always hearing about the Lions losing.

I have a question regarding the Anchorage recruiting process. I will be attending the recruiting event in Michigan on Sept.16th and what I am wondering is how soon do they let you know if you have been accepted to the next stage in Anchorage in October? I know that the interviews and everything are going to be held during their time in Michigan, but roughly how far in advance do they let you know that you are invited to come to test in Anchorage?

By the end of our trip we will make the notifications so that those that will be traveling to Anchorage can make their travel arrangements as soon as possible. You will most likely know with a day or two after your interview whether or not you will be invited to Anchorage to continue the process.

                      Thanks,

                      Steve
