    POLICE OFFICER
    NORTON SHORES POLICE DEPARTMENT

    The City of Norton Shores, Michigan, is located in West Michigan along more than six miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. The City is best described as a rural/suburban environment with a balance of industrial, commercial, and residential development encompassing 24.5 square miles and a population of 23,994. Norton Shores is home to P.J. Hoffmaster State Park and several City parks offering passive and active recreational activities.

    The citizens recently approved a ten year dedicated public safety millage to fund the hiring of three police officers to restore the Police Department’s staffing of 29 sworn officers. As a result, the City is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Police Officer. Responsibilities include providing basic law enforcement services to the community. Current compensation and benefits include: $43,730 – 55,313; MERS Pension; Medical / Life Insurance; Educational Bonus.

    Minimum qualifications:
    U.S. Citizenship
    21 years of age or older
    Bachelor degree in criminal justice or closely related field
    Licensed by MCOLES prior to hire date.
    Valid Michigan operator’s license with good driving record

    Where did you get the 3 from? It says on their site under the police department employment section that there are no open posistions currently.

        The only catch... A bachelors degree is required.

            Got the approval letter for written testing to be held next week. Looks like they got a lot of qualified applicants. There are 4 testing times over 2 days. Also, they are hiring one by July 1st and then 3 others afterwards for a total of 4 positions...which is about 15% of their sworn workforce. Hopefully more communities will pass mileages like Norton Shores to ensure police coverage in these tough times.
