I saw a couple for crack testers , but I saw testers for heroin on a regular, often weekly basis , I guess since heroin users always seem to be looking for that little bit better high. For guys who haven't worked BC, the brand names for heroin are fiercely protected, and a lot of shootings are over other dealers "counterfeiting" a good selling brand of heroin. Trademark infringements are taken seriously, there.
Some of the brand names when I was there were "Homicide", "Bad Dreams", "Tec-9", and "Black and Red".
Like I said, you just have to have seen it to believe it.

PS: Is Crazy Teddy still alive, or still out, and hanging out in the WD and NWD?
He was a funny one. He ripped off drug dealers for a living, and had been shot in the face with a .357 and lived. He was a convicted felon and got jacked up constantly, so he couldn't carry a gun. I had an informant tell me of him going to a drug crew on a corner, and telling the money man to give him all of their money. The money guy said to Teddy, "But, you don't even have a gun," Crazy Teddy said, "Do you want me to go get one?", and they didn't so a crew of about eight guys just gave him all of their money.
