A Baltimore County Police officer is dead from injuries suffered during a crash.

A Baltimore County Police officer is dead from injuries suffered during a crash.

Police say just before 2 p.m. Thursday, in the 3500-block of Black Rock Road, off-duty Officer Jason Simons, 32, a 7-year veteran of the department, was injured in a crash. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Shock Trauma.

Officer Simons was currently assigned to Precinct 6/Towson.

Crash investigators say a preliminary investigation reveals that Officer Simons was traveling eastbound on Black Rock Road in his 1998 Chevy S-10 pickup on his way to work.

He was approaching a sharp turn in the roadway when he lost control of the vehicle on a wet roadway.

The vehicle struck a guardrail and flipped over onto its top, trapping the officer inside.

After being extricated by fire department personnel he was airlifted by helicopter to Shock Trauma with serious injuries, where he died.

Police continue their investigation of the crash, but have no further details to release

Thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Sad situation for anyone but even more so for this officers particular family.

Don't understand the "Big Money" reference.

Was that a nickname for Officer Simons' stepfather?

              According to the Baltimore Sun:
... Detective Jason Simons, 32 ... was the stepson of Baltimore County Police Lt. Michael Howe, the commander of the tactical unit who died a year ago after suffering a stroke. ...
May God rest and keep both of them, and help their family and friends.

                  Thanks, Name Taken.

Now that you tell me that, it occurs to me to imagine that the Big Money nickname was something the Lt. had earned, presumably by having made seizures of large amounts of high-value contraband or illicit funds.

Again, may God rest and keep both of them, and help their family and friends.

I appreciate being allowed to post here in your home forum.

Please accept my condolences regarding the passing of your friend Officer Simons, and of his stepfather, both of whom you knew, and neither of whom I knew, but both of whom I appreciate for their good work and dedication to the well-being of everyone.

May God rest and keep Det. Simons, and his stepfather Lt. Howe, and help their family and friends.

Officer Simons, like other Police Officers do, put his life on the line, day after day, in persistent defense of everyone's rights, and may God rest and keep him, and help his friends and family.

This thread is about showing our respect for a fellow brother so let’s keep it that way.

RIP Officer Simons. Hopefully his family will receive full benefits even though the death didn't occur on-duty.
