Is ESBRO actively hiring right now and do they have lateral program or do you have to do the whole academy all over again? Also I thought I saw on the application you apply for Deputy Sherrif or Corrections. So Can you get hired as Deputy Sherrif and then they send you to the jail instead of the road?

BRPD allows take home units within 25 miles of the center of the city. I take mine home daily and live in Pairieville. I've never made less than 40k since I've started with BRPD. The base pay scales are a tad crazy to me. Last year I worked 1 day a week over time and made a very healthy wage. We have officers in our department making 100,000. It all depends on what you want to do.

There as been recent talk of becoming a METRO P.D. but i dont see that happening anytime soon, and it seems to come up every few years.

Any other questions let me know.

Not exactly true anymore. For about the last two years EBRSO has changed it's policy about hiring. If you have prior LEO experience, military or a college degree you have a pretty good chance of going to patrol. In the last 18 months there have been tons of guys coming through FTO that were new hires. Trust me a bunch of guys in the prison who have been waiting to come out aren't happy, but it's the new way.

We also have take homes for anytime use ( I live out of Parish). I came here and didn't know a soul and went right to the road. I work my a** off and it's payed off for me. A hard worker here will be rewarded. The flip side, Rookie is correct, a guy might be related to someone and trump you right out of a spot you deserve. It's a political gauntlet sometimes. Overall it's a good agency with a lot of good deputies.

Same as BRPD, all equipment if provided (4th gen glock 22 w/light, really nice cars right now to include a bunch of Tahoes, etc, no boots provided). I'd say go with who's hiring. Get on somewhere and figure it out then. With OT and details at the end of the day the bigger agencies pay are going to pretty much equal out.

Good luck to you if you have any questions let us know..

We have PT test, strict FTO, fair promotion based on knowlege first, leadership ability and then longevity. A system for getting fired, that is fair (chances are given on most things) certain amount of write ups following suspensions among other actions before you go to the review panel for a recommendation to the Sheriff, none of this come in today fired before lunch just because. We have take homes anywhere anytime in the parish unrestricted (nudie bars of course) all equipment given top of the line technology AND we get a new pair of boots every year, LOL!!

On the flip side there are some sheriff's Offices I wouldn't take the job if they offered me the Sheriff's position, LOL! Same with some PD's out there.
CreoleCop This post answers a lot of my questions that I personally had about your department. I have few more I would like to ask but your inbox is full. Just let me know when you have time to answer them because I want to make sure I make the right decision.

After you are post certified and have 1 year on the job,the state pays you $500.00 a month. This was begun for communities to compete with state police. It has now been added into the state constitution because some arsehat politico would try to remove it as a grandstand for votes,on an almost yearly basis.

edited to add,Hey patroldog, did you know you left the computer logged on in the office??I didn't either till I posted this----signed,mavriktu.

BRPD is short 60 officers and will fill that in the upcoming future. Our list is so long just because of people wanting a change, coming from other agencies, and wanting a job they dont have to worry about losing.

State Suppl. pay is basically the state giving us money to wrecks ahah, It is promised by state laws. It was basically given to us due to the small amount we were payed. SOmeone else may have a better answer but they also pay teachers the same way they do us. You dont start to get it until your POST.

I just dont care for S/Os they are political and they rank and file is based on that nothing else. Our system is based on how long you've been there and if you are smart enough to make a 75 on a simple test. They craziest thing about our department is our shift schedule

Also I guess the departments down there aren't hiring very often? You stated the waiting list is a long ways? I guess right now isn't the best of times to be looking to move. When is the last time that BRPD ran an academy?

Hey I appreciate it, I grew up in Prairieville and that place is booming with new subdivisions! I really appreciate your help, at first I thought this place was gonna be as lonely as the Wyoming forum!

I didn't know the full service sherrif's departments were like that down there.

Can you explain the State Supplemental pay to me please? I have never heard of this and there's not a single department in GA or any other state that I know of where the State supplements your income. Why would the State care what your making?
