I plan to apply here in the spring and was wondering if they hire frequently? Is the academy live in? What are the shifts? Good department? Any information will help.Thanks.

If you are wanting to start working in the spring then you should apply now. The next class is set to run in November and the next will be in June. The hiring process takes a while to complete. The academy is not live in. The academy runs from 7:30am-5:00pm. When you get out of academy you can expect to be working nights for a while.

This is the information that I have gathered while going through the hiring process. I hope that it helps.

I have one more semester to go for my 60 credit hours and will have them done in May, can I still apply now?

I believe so. You will just have to make sure you get all of your hours completed. Give them a call and they will answer all of your questions.

The shifts vary by the division you are assigned, but roughly follow as plus or minus an hour.: Daywork:7am-3pm. Mid watch:230pm-1am Late watch:12pm-7am. Late watch gets shift differential pay. Id say its a good department to work for, plenty of room to move around to specialized units and a lot of different areas/types of crime to encounter.

we work with them all the time (Probation/Parole) and i am currently waiting to hear something back about testing. There are lots of opportunities with LMPD. I have heard through some of the detectives I work with this next class will be 18 people.

only way to know is to apply. i'd just go ahead and do it.

There is a class set to run in November. It is too late to get into that class. The next class is scheduled for next fall. This of course could change. Your best bet is to get your application in now and go through as much of the process as possible.

There's roughly 2 classes a year, not including laterals. I think the longest the process would run is 6 months. I know of people who did it quicker than that.

All indications are that the next academy will start in June, though there have been rumors about a March academy. I just completed the first 2 phases for the next academy. This will be my 3rd time going through the application with LMPD- 2005, 2008, and now. I hear the next phase of testing will take place in January and no testing will occur in December.

This will be a fun way to keep up with others who are also going through the process.
