Thanks for the headsup, i've been checking it weekly waiting for this day! I have already mailed mine in. This would be much easier than moving away for this type of position that for sure.
    Did you apply?

I don't think size is concrete and won't be for a while yet. It will depend on how many they can come up with money for. 30 seems high, but that would be awesome if it is true. Iowa #1603 if you find out can you PM me or post on here. I'm curious. With the approval of the casino for Lyon County, Special Agent 1's are needed to staff it for sure.

Read the job descriptions with payscales

I THINK you would be eligible to promote to Trooper II when an opening for Trooper II comes up.

I'm not sure if the Trooper II pay scale is updated to the current contract or not. The Trooper I pay scale is correct. I think the Trooper II top end got bumped up in the last contract although the starting is the same after the academy.

A Trooper I must complete a year of probation at Post 16, and then are eligible for a promotion to Trooper II when there are Trooper II vacancies to be filled, usually around academy time. If you are picky about where you want to live, it might not happen as quickly as if you are willing to move. Once you get promoted, you go through another FTO period and then get your own car and begin patrolling on your own!

It's going to be a small academy. I would guess on a class size of less than 20.

                        10-12 Agent I, 2-6 Trooper I, and 1-2 Fire inspectors.
What have you done for the State of Iowa today?

Out of curiosity, do all Iowa Troopers start out at Post 16 then? No such thing as going in as a Trooper II and going straight to the road?

No, not everyone starts as a Trooper 1 at Post 16. In the past it has been possible to go straight to the road as a Trooper 2. You can be hired at Post 16 at 18 years old. To be a Trooper 2 you have to be 22 years old by graduation date. Those under 22 can get on at Post 16 and finish or get a degree while working there and put in for promotion when they will be 22. This year, however, they are only hiring for Trooper 1's at Post 16 it appears, and not for Trooper 2's. Usually, it seems like if you don't have any other experience you will get a Trooper 1 offer, not Trooper 2. Prior experience in law enforcement, military, college, post education work experience, etc will make the chances of getting selected as a Trooper 2 better. That being said, there are exceptions to this like anything and you're guess is as good as mine. If an applicant is eligible, I'd put Trooper 2 as the top choice on the application and pray for that but think about if you'd take Post 16 (you meaning a potential applicant, not you statebear).

I wish DPS would get with the game and offer a shortened academy for those of us who are already certified! I'd LOVE to be a Trooper, but I really could give 2 ****s about having to go through another (harder, longer, less fun) academy AGAIN.
