I knew he was a former Marion County but I never got a chance to talk to him about it....

I passed by him every day when I entered the AUL building. I would be curious if any of you guys out there knew him.

Thoughts and prayers with his family.

Both his father and sister preceded him in death. Dave graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1958. He was an All-City, All-State and All-American football player wearing the number 55. He attended Indiana University on a football scholarship until 1960, when a back injury ended his career. He joined the Marion County Sheriff's Department as the first Merit Deputy of Marion County, an honor he was extremely proud of. Dave met Carol Mae Julius in 1961 and they were married in May of 1962 at St George's Church in Erie, PA. Dave and Carol were married for 45 wonderful years. They had three children, Kelly, Kristy and Mark, and eleven grandchildren, Ashley, Jennifer, Katie, Thomas, Kyle, Heather, Courtney, Michael, Morgan, Jake and Taylor. Dave coached CYO football at Immaculate Heart of Mary, where he was a member for over 30 years. He was instrumental in starting The Coats for Kids Program with Bob Gregory and volunteered along with the Salvation Army to help it to be the success that it is today. He worked at the Riviera Club and retired from Tuchman Cleaners in 2003. In 2004, he joined Securitex as a security guard for the AUL building in downtown Indianapolis. Dave was a"subway alumni" of Notre Dame football, loved the Indianapolis Colts and donated monthly to the St Jude Children's Hospital. He had a countless number of friends and everyone that met him was touched in some way by his kindness, humor and love. Dave is survived by his mother Muriel L. (Duncan) Ballinger; his wife Carol Mae (Julius) Ballinger: his children, Kelly S. (Ballinger) Tamarri, Kristy L. (Ballinger) Graham (Thomas Graham), and Mark A.
