  • Concealed Carry for Cops

    Note to Police:
If you are carrying (first of all your gun was entierely to big to conceal under a pullover, you looked like a tard) off duty in a public place and you are approached by a uniformed Officer working off duty security. If said Officer asks you if you are carrying a concealed weapon after he is flagged down by a store owner in reference to you carrying a gun against the buisinesses policy (it shall be noted that said Officer disagrees with said policy against carrying). If you say yes and the Officer asks to see your permit you probably should not respond by saing "I Don't need a permit" and then begin to reach for your hand towards the weapon. Do not look at the uniformed Officer angrily when he grabs your arm because he is not a mind reader and did not know that you were retreiving your wallett in order to show him your badge from your reserve department. It shall be noted that if said Officer sees you act this way again it is likely that he will punchisize your face.

Unless your store has a metal-detector, the security staff, nor anyone else, will ever know that I am carrying in the first place. On the flip-side, if you are an off-duty and carrying in one of the places I work of-duty, I don't want to anyone, myself included, to see your firearm. Don't press, flash, or hike your skirt so your gun is visible. This rationale solves and prevents many, many problems.

      *Edit*
That having been said, if by some miracle of modern science, someone did notice that I was armed and you subsequently approached me---. I would be polite, courteous, professional, and not do anything to make you want to punch, kick, tackle or slap me. I would identify myself, apologize for your inconvenience and tell you to be safe.

If you ask me for my "permit", which I don't need but still have, don't get all butthurt when I reach for my wallet to show it to you. Luckily it is on the opposite side from my gun so I shouldn't get punchasized. And no, it wasn't me.

So don't conceal it at all? I was in Walmart the other day saw a citizen carring a very nice Kimber open carry and I thought this is why I love Indiana! Approach me and ask why I am carrying will get you a quick spat to go @@## yourself until you got cause to ask anything more than if I have a permit. That guy must be a rookie. I am proud Indiana citizens can carry. I have been a Police Officer for 16 years and would be happy for any backup that comes my way in a firefight jo blow citizen included.

I remember a morning piece on Fox59 last year where an expensive bra saleswoman said "When you spend ten grand for those puppies, don't store them in generic junk".

Merely hitting like wasn't enough- That's the best thing I read on here in awhile. I may exit out and leave on a good note.

Well this fails to explain all the odd looks I get when at the local mercantile. Heck, just the other day I was approached several times by wayward mall cops who demanded to know why I was packing. I was at a complete loss since my pistol was securely encased in an ankle holster. Mind you I was not wearing my 5-11’s, nor was I flashing my obligatory handcuff key attached to my kubaton with the keys to the family trickster. And I will add that my shirt was neither Under armor brand nor from the local FOP lodge. I have let my hair grow out so the standard issue crew-cut wasn’t a giveaway either….

Then it dawned on me; I was wearing shorts….silly me. This is why I look forward to the cooling winds of Winter. I can finally move to wearing long pants and stop getting hassled by folks with nothing better to do....

A few considerations for carrying concealed: weather, attire, firearm type, holster and most importantly, the mindset of the concealed carrier. Weather and attire are obvious factors due to comfort, accessibility and the ability to actually keep your weapon concealed. I don’t dress in uncomfortable clothes just so I can carry concealed, I adapt my carry method.

I'd be interested to know what department allows their reserves to carry a firearm off duty without a permit...

Our reserves are civilians again once they go 42. So yes, you do need a permit and still cannot carry if the property owner requests no firearms on the premises...

Well, since IMPD reserves have take home cars, its safe to assume we don't yank their powers when they aren't logged on.
                    I miss you, Dave.

Off subject. Cruiser, are there reserves that have cars where some full times don't? Not including out of county officers of course. Just curious...

This is why I carry a Ruger LCP .380 off duty....also, in Nevada at least, LEO over rides "no carry zones" including the bank, post office, etc...

Most agencies in Indiana allow reserves to have police powers 24/7 and carry firearms off duty without a license to carry. Every state's laws and law enforcement culture are different when it comes to addressing these issues.

I would be more concerned with a department that doesn't allow a Reserve to carry off duty. Shi- Bags you arrest don't give a damn nor do they ask if you're a reserve, part time or full time.

I would never jam the guy/gal up who may have been my cover officer the night before.

As a former reserve... a policy like that is pretty ridiculous. Trust them enough to carry and enforce law, but not to have that coverage when they are off duty? Anyways... for another topic, I guess. Every state is different on those issues.

Dress to the gun and pay good money for a holster. Glock 23 in an Atomic Dog belt holster... nice and tight to the body. I could conceal with a T shirt if I wanted. I love this thing.
