You know what else sucks? I heard a few of the staff got up to 30% to "keep the position competitive"...
Come on. And all I've heard from numerous MCSD deputies is how they've all been told that Ballard is going to cut IMPD guys, etc. That would be great... Give your people a raise but cut IMPD officers when we don't have enough to cover the street as it is.

If you didn't go to the FOP meeting last night, you should have. I hate being psychic.
While the city hasn't officially reopened our contract yet, they are making preliminary talk about doing so, along with the fuel surcharge and, of course, no new hires.
Oh, and the city did let the number of officers fall below the federal minimum for the COPS grant, so they get to pay back $3.8 million. I wonder if Straub will put that on his resume...I miss you, Dave.

Mayor David Condon said Wednesday that he is “very confident” one of two remaining finalists will be the next Spokane police chief, despite a law enforcement panel’s recommendation that he restart the search. Either Daniel Mahoney, the commanding officer of the Ingleside Police Station within the San Francisco Police Department, or Frank Straub, director of public safety in Indianapolis, will be the city’s next top cop.

Basically that the city has an $11 million dollar shortage in the public safety budget (not just IMPD, all of public safety). They were trying to close that gap without reopening the contract, but after several meetings the city said that opening the contract was still on the table. IFD will be shuttering some fire stations, no word on the sheriff's dept, fuel surcharge at $52/month is still on the table.
$3.8 million of that shortfall is repaying the federal COPS grant because we are under the staffing levels needed to keep it.I miss you, Dave.
