A fundraiser for the Matthew A. Kimmell Memorial Fund will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2009, in Carlisle, IN. Please see the enclosed invitation and message from Matt’s wife, Mylissa for more information.
For those of you who did not know Matt, he was a Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s deputy for three years. Shortly after the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Matt resigned from the VCSO and re-enlisted in the U.S. Army. Matt’s goal was to become a member of Special Operations. After extensive training and preparation, Matt achieved that goal and became a demolitions expert with the 5th Special Forces Group (Green Berets) based at Ft. Campbell, KY.
On October 11, 2005, while on patrol with his team in Dali Abbas, Iraq, SSG Matthew Kimmell was killed in action when the Humvee in which he was riding struck an improvised explosive device (IED).
Matt’s wife, Mylissa, along with family members, established a memorial fund in Matt’s honor to help qualifying students with the expenses associated with a college education. A scholarship committee reviews applications and administrates the fund.
We can assure you that not only does the money go toward a worthy cause in honor of a true Warrior, but we can also assure you that you will not go hungry!
