How is everyone doing? I have been stopping by the academy track and doing the test with my friend (impd bud). I have been chipping away at my time, though its still hard to get it any better then 14 minutes on the 1.5, which is poor but its still passing. I will keep working at it, we have almost 2 weeks!“I sometimes wish that people would put a little more emphasis upon the observance of the law than they do upon its enforcementâ€

Heard from a Merit Board member last night. There are 105 left in process that is being narrowed down to THE 80 for the Academy. Good Luck!Comment

Thanks for the info! So does that mean only 105 were asked to report for the Interim Physical? Or should some people be expecting to get "no thank you" letters before 5/16?Comment

2 days left, are you all running?? im nervous my 1.5 is only 15 mins... thats just not good enough! 19 is a lifetime...but 15 is still crap im working HARD on it though!“I sometimes wish that people would put a little more emphasis upon the observance of the law than they do upon its enforcementâ€

Don't feel bad Bancroft. My 1.5m is like 16 min. But I'm a bigger guy and i HATE long distance. My 300m is great, but I just can't pace myself on the long range stuff. Sprinter in high school, sprinter now haha. I just have to keep it in my mind that after I kill myself on the 1st two laps I still have 4 to go.
Other than that I have no worries. Im just focusing on making myself look good. If there's 105 left in the process and they're inviting 80 that's a possible 25 people to be cut for the academy. But we all know some people probably went with different agencies and may not show for this test making even less people to cut.
Whatever happens best of luck to all of you. I'll see you all there!Comment

Again, keep pushing yourself and you will be fine. Good luck to all with the PAT. I will be there at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow."I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody." Bill CosbyComment

Like it was said above, push yourself to make the EXIT standard. It is not that much more and you have to make it to graduate. BTW you also do the entire PT test over the first week and must pass it to stay.
Good LuckComment

thanks guys, and good luck little 10-96! update us all on how this test works...if its the same or not. I was hoping to know if you are cut on the spot if you dont make it ( by observation not you personally getting cut!). I remember them calling out a LOT of names at the last test and having them leave the classroom if they failed I am curious to see if they will function the same way.“I sometimes wish that people would put a little more emphasis upon the observance of the law than they do upon its enforcementâ€

woooo just got back. passed & knoced 3 mins off my time. we had one person fail the run but that person wasnt called out on the spot but none of the HR or training staff were happy that person had failed i can say that. It is exactly the same test only nicer weather haha.Good luck to all who still have to run tomorrow.Be polite to everyone you meet, but be ready to kill them at a moments notice.- Maj.WillardComment

Ok guys here's the deal... when it comes to PT, running, and whatever else, the better you can do the easier the academy will be. If you get on, this WILL BE one of the most stressful times in your life. Not only physically, but also emotionally and spiritually (not too mention the stress on your family and social life). So make it easy on yourselves by getting into good shape and not having PT to worry about. I completely understand some people aren't "running" people and may not be the best at it, but YOUR LIFE could depend on it some day.
I know the PT is not the same as when I went through (which wasn't that long ago at all) and they aren't running as much now, but you WILL still run, and it will suck. The people in my class with 14+ minute running times had a very hard time with PT and DT (getting exhausted and such), you should be around 12 minutes (and still hopefully less than that). Don't settle for just "getting by" because then you will get your *** kicked when push comes to shove in PT, and the last thing you want is to be the guy who falls out.
I'm not saying this to make anyone worry or get nervous or anything, I'm just telling it how it is because most of the posts I have read (which haven't been too many) describe 15 minute 1.5 times, which really should be improved upon.
I have no idea when your class or even the next class starts, but do everything you possibly can to get your body over that "oh s***" phase right now rather than waiting for the first couple sessions when it comes to PT and DT. I'm talking about the swollen knee's that need to be drained, strained backs, shin splints, all that crap, because that is one of the hardest parts when the academy begins.
Remember, if you get on (and still while you are in the process), IMPD is the best law enforcement agency in the state and could definitely be one of the top in the country. We DO get shot at, ran from, fought, cursed, spit on, insulted personally, and people in some places just do not like the police, so take it seriously. It's not like cops and it's nothing like television, so prepare for it as much as you can without hurting yourself before the start of the academy. Any ?'s let me know**You sleep safe in your beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do you harm...**Comment

Thanks for being brutally honest Metro6551. That is what we needed to hear. Not only for the people that think this will be a cake walk, but for those, like myself, that knew this was going to be tough. I ran 13:39 yesterday and knew that was not going to be fast enough. I have come a long way, I used to weigh over 320 lbs and have had to literally work my butt off, and I know that is not going to be enough. I am currently around 230 lbs and still trying to get lower. Even though I have worked hard, I need to work harder. Again, thanks for being honest and giving us the "slap" in the face. Good luck to all who are still striving to become an IMPD Officer."I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody." Bill CosbyComment

Agreed, thank you metro6551. I had a bit of an epiphany today after the PAT. I made it better than the exit standard on all the events but I realize that is just NOT even close to satisfactory. I agree with the training sargeants, Stipe and Oslow-sp?- (I believe), the standards (even the exit) are pitifully low. I have 1 month and 1 week to get the most extreme workouts of my life in if I want to have a chance at this academy and I intend to do so with all of my heart and might. What I did today was unacceptable at a personal level, even if it was "satisfactory". Good luck to everyone in the process, we are so close!
P.S. I want this job with all of my heart and being, and I promise I will work for it, ... if anyone is struggling please PM me and we can get together and work on crossfit together. I need help with motivation and I am sure you do too!“I sometimes wish that people would put a little more emphasis upon the observance of the law than they do upon its enforcementâ€
