          IMPD 6th

I got the same thanks but no thanks letter. It would have been nice since I was one of those who were split from the 5th class in May to be informed before this. I would have applied for the 7th class had I known. I was not going to go through all the steps again while in a current process. They keep you hanging on a limb without notification and then you get this, and now have to wait until the 8th process. Good luck to all those who made it onto the Polygraph, for me I will have to evaluate if this is the type of department I want to join. Feels like they really are not that in tune to recruiting and timeliness, especially with all the garbage in the news about it.

You couldn't have done that anyway. You're only allowed to participate in one process at a time. Sorry to hear about being cut, that does suck.

I have not received my letter yet, but I did receive a call today from my background investigator asking if it was alright if he called my current job. I said yes, then he asked if I had any questions and then said he will see me at the polygraph...So my letter must be lost in the mail somewhere.

I'm no expert but here are some thoughts on the long process, I hated the wait too.

It serves another purpose, even if its only a side effect. The wait sometimes provides enough time investment on the applicant’s part to truly gauge commitment levels.

First of all, with any job, rookies are overpaid for the first two - three years, so imagine all the investment only to have someone change their mind because its not like they thought it would be (read: like they saw on TV/Web/Dreams). Imagine them quitting during the academy (it happens), you've just paid someone ~$600 per week to sit around and learn off you and you got nothing out of them to benefit your business, yes it is business. The length of time helps alleviate this because when you finally get through you have really accomplished something, you can’t throw away 6-12 months of wishing. Its psychology, "pulling back the carrot" only makes you want it more.

Another way to look at it; they are essentially giving a $40,000 scholarship (probationary year) to every successful applicant, multiply that by the number of cadets and that’s a HUGE investment, if you were to invest that much you'd do the Due Diligence wouldn't you?

Does anybody have a good number for HR? The one on the website goes to VM and the box is full, when you dial 0 it say's the number is a non working number. I have been calling to try and update my address since I just moved. I live out of state otherwise I would just go in and give them the updated info.

Congrads to everyone who made it to the next stage btw. I hope I can get my address changed so I can get my letter.

I just got home from FTO inservice. The Deputy Chief of Operations told the FTOs that the 6th recruit class is supposed to have 80 spots available. Good luck to everyone still in the process.

There was an e-mail sent out that HR changed its office hours. There is supposed to be someone there from 0800-1200 Eastern. After 1200, there may or may not be anyone there. This is due to not filling civilian positions in HR and the fact the staff left is trying to keep up with applications.
