  • Ball State PD hiring

I just saw it in the Indy Star today, so I don't have any additional info about how many, etc.

    Here's a link:

    I miss you, Dave.

    Add'l info:

The starting hourly rate for the Ball State police department is $16.75.

The minimum qualifications to be an officer are: an associates degree or two years of college or equivalent experience in law enforcement; successful completion of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy basic training course within the first year of employment or completion of an equivalent training program approved by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board; must posses and maintain a valid Indiana driver's license; must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty, and be able to meet physical fitness standards as defined by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy; must pass a psychological evaluation and polygraph test post-offer/pre-employment; must pass a skills test.

The preferred qualifications to be an officer are: a bachelor's degree; successful completion of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy basic training course or completion of an equivalent training program approved by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board; law enforcement experience related to a campus/university environment.

I can't believe they desire preferred candidates with those credentials and then only want to pay $16.75/hour. Not sure if they offer lateral pay or a take-home vehicle program.

Not sure if this will affect this process or not:

IU did that awhile back but it did not affect public safety departments. It's a part of Governor's budget cut plan.

We don't need anymore hires. We are too top heavy already. I would much rather have them shift the money for new hires towards wages and benefits. If the economy ever comes back (say after the younger babyboomers finally retire in the next five years or so from other departments), we are going to have to install a revolving door people will be leaving so fast!!
