      Excise Process

Got the "We regret to inform you" letter today. Seems like with them only taking on a few officers I am sure they already had the ones they wanted picked out. As all letters state, "You may reapply to go through the next process", what a joke. Who wants to go through all this time and again to only be rejected due to being the wrong sex or color, I know they say this does not go on, but let's be realistic. I have been through this process before and remembered almost every question asked from priors and studied from it. Why else do you think they have you state your name in front of a camera at the written test, to find out who they are gonna hire from the get go. Anyway, good luck to the those of you in the background and to those SPECIAL 2-3 who may already have the job. And I'm out.

        2bblue,

I can say after reading your whining and crying I am glad you were not given the opportunity to become a police officer. Read your own post and you should be able to figure out why you will probably never become a sworn officer.

-Most departments in the state only take a few at a time.
-Most Officers go through many lengthy processes
-Wrong Sex & Color seems to only matter when the white guy didnt get the job

Thank you for that riveting synopsis Mr. AceCop,I was simply stating what everyone else I have spoken with in this position is thinking. You have obviously never been through this process before, this is is the lowest number of applicants I can ever recall,. The last few have had upwards of 20-25 if I was informed correctly. All processes are lengthy and it doesn't matter white, black, green, male, or female if there is a certain type they are looking for, then that is who they will hire regardless of performance. That is the point I was trying to make, and if they were to state how many positions they are looking to fill in the beginning then it would help those that may have other options and aid them in the decision to go through the process or not. Since when does patrolling the mall constitute being a Cop anyways?

I received my letter also last week. Wasn't happy, but my request for the next cycle went out the next day. I went back through projected and actual budgets and here's what I found: 2009-2010 PROJECTED $10,393,168, 2008-2009 ACTUAL $11,013,976, 2007-2008 ACTUAL $10,773,582, and for 2006-2007 $5,400,413. Riveting, I know. Based on the figures above, my guess is that the next class will be small also, unless they are replacing existing officers.

I hear yea. The problem I see is that you tried to apply for a state LE job. While there might not be many applying, I honestly believe they have some really good applicants in there. Seriously, if you don't have a college degree or some special skill (like speaking Spanish, already ILEA certified, etc.), the larger the department, the more likely you won't get on. My advice to you is to try for smaller departments. I know departments like McCordsville, Fortville, etc. always seem to be hiring. They pay enough to make a living. I am not sure, but I think a lot of the officers from those smaller city/town departments are the ones who end up in the larger departments. It takes time, nothing you can do about it. I know when I talked with a Noblesville officer many years ago, he said he came from Greenfield PD. In fact, a lot of officers used to come from Greenfield PD. Greenfield had trouble keeping officers in the past because they did not offer a take-home car and the pay was lower than other agencies. That is how you play the game.

Rumor was they started 60 backgrounds... and Recruit school is to start May 4... so they will need to have those done soon so offers can be put on the table. I think after the background people will have 1on1's with the superintendent. I still haven't heard anything about the official number of immediate hires, so maybe just 2 still?

                    • Just had my at-home interview last night. The officer advised the last he has heard is that the number was still 2. Good luck to all.

Theres other ways to protect and serve, check your local department alot of them have reserve programs. I did not make it through the process this time. I am 41 years old, two kids, wife and a full time job, and I still manage to have time to be a very active reserve. Quit feeling sorry for your self and do something about it.

                              • Heard today the letters will be and/or are out in the mail and will contain information regarding a 1on1 with the superintendent, given you've moved on.

Good luck to those left.... I'm thinking there should be < 30 at this point... ?
