  • Credit and School History

I am starting to apply to LE agencies once again. About two years ago, I tested for a department for the first time. I failed the BI and I am sure it was due to my credit rating. I really destroyed my credit about 5 years ago while going through a bad time. At the same time, I with drew from school with terrible grades. I just was not focused.

Now, I have paid some of my debt off and am continuing to pay off the remaining debt. I am going back to school in the fall with a new focus and new energy. Will my past disqualify me from all departments? Or will they look at the fact that I am paying things off and have turned things around? Also, will going back to school and receiving good grades help matters?

I thank you for your responses! This is something that I truly want to do and I am affraid that what I did in the past will not allow me to achieve these goals. For the record, I have zero history with LE other than 3 or 4 minor traffic violations (speeding and expired plates) over the last 15 years.

    Did you graduate high school?

Credit doesn't seem to be an issue with agencies, but having exteme debt does.

    How bad is your debt?

When was your last moving violation?

Graduated high school, with honors (National Honors Society Member).

Debt is less than it was, but still not where it needs to be.

Last moving violation was roughly 3 years ago.

Hope this info. helps with what ever it is you may be thinking.

As long as you are current on your bills you should be fine. If you are currently past due or in collections you might have some problems. Departments are mainly looking to see if you are responsible. If you had some problems in the past but have taken responsibility now everything you should be okay.
