I see that Carol Stream will be testing. They mention a mandatory orientation/written and then they mention an oral. There is no mention of the physical agility test.

Does anyone have any info. on this department and do they not require a POWER test as a part of the process?

Some departments do not do a POWER test. Reason might be because too many people fail them, that was one reason I was given.

They let the academy give them so people have as much time to prepare as possible.

Some departments are a bunch of chicken****s. Usually the reason they don't administer a POWER test during the process is because they're afraid of getting sued because the as I'm sure you know the test is based on age and sex factors. Therefore if some sue-happy POS fails it, they'll sue and claim discrimination. Even though the state sets the guidelines people are stupid and therefore administrators of departments get scared. This is ridiculous because some morons that test don't even know what the POWER test is or realize that they should probably be in shape if they want to be the police and then they get hired, go to the academy and flunk out. Get way to waste a lot of time and money for departments.

It's terrible because people willingly apply for police work knowing there are physical tests. And they are also given weeks, if not months, to prepare for those tests. Yet some people still fail them.

I wouldn't want my safety/life to rely on people who just take things too lightly and fail to prepare. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Carol Stream just tested last June and I think the year before too... Do they just fly through their lists or what??

I personally think that it is a joke that they will not hold a POWER test. I have only tested for one other department and that was about two years ago, however, the POWER test cut about 1/3 of the applicants. The fact that someone could take a written and then an oral and then go to the academy with out ever taking the POWER test is crazy. When they fail, they just ruined someone else's opportunity and as it was pointed out, cost a lot of time and money for the municipality.

I did see that they tested last year as well! May be it has something to due with that general area. I know Glen Ellyn tests every year as well . I think I will go and test and see what happens.

CSPD FLIES through their lists. I am not sure if this is 100% correct but somebody told me a few years ago they went through a list of about 50 without hiring anyone..Could have high standards or a poor group of applicants.

And as far as the POWER test goes-it's BS. I think there should be standards for POLICE OFFICERS not individuals of a certain age and gender. A lot of states have minimum standards for all applicants not just men/women 21-30 etc. Call me an a-hole but criminals aren't going to fight less because you are 45 years old or female nor are they going to fight harder against a young guy. Women get too much of a break on those things.

They have a very high turn over rate and they wash out over 50% during the FTO program. Suppose to be a very difficult place to work....becareful.

Just for my own curiousity I went to Carol Stream's website. They aren't a CALEA agency but they are "accredited" through another agency. Whenever a police department is "accredited" they run the department not the chief. So basically you have people that haven't been the police in 30 years (if ever at all) telling your department how it should run to be "professional." Pssh...these are the type of idiots that ruin department morale because it creates a crappy work environment. We have a department down by me that is CALEA and most of the guys there HATE their job. They get suspended for stupid stuff constantly, it's like constantly walking on eggshells. I will never work for a place that is "accredited." All it means is that some agency gave them that label for doing things their way.

I'm glad to hear this. I was thinking about applying there, however, after hearing this, I think I will fore-go doing so.

I would be very cautious of Carol Stream. We have a lot of guys that used to work for them and the horror stories they tell are crazy. Someone also posted about Glen Ellyn. I would stay far far away from that place. I used to work there and yikes. Feel free to pm me about specifics about those depts. Cubsfan07, you could not be more right about the CALEA departments.

Joliet is a CALEA department. What is everyones opinion about JPD?

A friend of mine took it. He said he is expecting the results this week. I believe he has an agility test on the 19th if he passes.

                              good question

What's your opinion on Joliet PD?

Also Carol Stream are looking to hire about 5 people, there was one guy who graduated with me in June from SLEA. I'll try calling him to see how his experience is so far.
