  • Home Interview...

So I passed the physical and written test, along with an initial interview. I've now been scheduled for a home interview (A detective will come to my home and interview me). I've gone through a few interviews with different departments, but never one at my home... What should I expect? Any advice?

    Which department?

They may go over any information you have submitted or they have looked into, i.e., criminal history, credit history, neihgborhood references, test results, etc.

Like rybak mentioned, the interview is not your usual "why should we hire you interview". It's all questions about your background.
You shut your mouth when you're talking to me!

I had a home interview with Round Lake PD a few months ago, it's nothing serious. They just want to see how you live, just make sure your place is presentable and it shouldn't be bad. Mine was a little talking about the department, answering any questions, and explaining things to my fiance...most of it was shooting the "schnitzel" though which was pretty cool. Good luck!

Does that mean that they actually see how you live? Do they go inside your room, etc...?

I think it depends on the detective. The detective that came to my house was not interested in any other rooms because the room we were in was clean and had an average set up. I did notice an interest however when I left the room for a few minuets to get some paperwork for him. when I came back I caught him being very observant of some other photos and papers that were unrelated I had on my desk. Thats fine with me. If you were a detective, I'm sure you would want to gather all the info you could get too.

My investigator was very cool. He flew through the paperwork and then very generously answered any questions I had about CPD/life as a cop.

Bonus for me, two of the four neighbor references I gave him are CPD.

                  Good Luck,

                  RyBaK

Can we put that behind us?
Just for same measure I should edit that out.

Mine was the same as CATM's, they already went thru a BG on me and didn't find anything (not that there was something to find), and the front room/dining room was clean, so he prolly didn't feel the need to search. It wouldn't have bothered me though if he looked everywhere because that's exactly where I cleaned.
