Anyone out there on a 5/2 5/3 schedule? If so I am curious about some of the specifics. I am working a 6/2 schedule and looking for other options. 12's and 10's will not work at my department.

            Thanks

My old PD did 6/2's and I was not CPD. The CPD sched is fairly common, granted it is the WORST schedule ever IMHO!!! Curious Litteringand, how is it that 12's can't work on your PD???? The great thing about 12's is it will work on a 10 man dept. or a 2000 man dept. 12's is the "easiest" way to balance manpower and get the most "bang for the buck", so how is it they won't work?

6/2.....? I'd imagine those are 8hr shifts, correct? That does seem like a weird schedule.

Every PD in the Chicago Metro area worked 6/2 (8hr shifts) when I came on and everybody rotated shifts every 28 days (Mid, Pm, Days). CPD is still on the 6/2. I wish we would go to 10 hr. 4/3 shifts. 12's would be a little long on the city..

As an aside, years ago I worked for a PD that had 6/2 for 4 weeks then you went 7/4 for the last week. Talk about that 7th day being a killer..

Glen Ellyn and Frankfort work 12's. I would love it if my new department would go to 12's. I think most of the guys are afraid that the OT would be drastically reduced.

                          Shift

Not on Chicago PD, I am out in the Burbs. Our schedule is work 6 days, then two days off. So if you have Mon, Tues off then next week you have Tues, Wed off. When you finally hit your weekends you have Fri, Sat, Sun then Sat, Sun, Mon off. The weekends are nice, however not worth it to get there. We are really short on manpower and have limited squads. We do not have enough of either for tens, our union does not want 12's. So I am looking for any other options out there. Another prob is our city hall requires us to work 80 hours in a two week period.... no more no less.

Litteringand, I wrote you a PM. If you stay on 8's AND are understaffed, you guy's are screwed. There is NO way to balance it out. No matter how you move days, etc., it is like the 3 shell game with the ball underneath one shell. You can mix it around however you want, but it doesn't changed where the ball is at. It's simple math, nothing can change for you guys UNLESS the hours you work changes. Staffing a place 24/7 using 8 hour shifts leaves an imbalance no matter how you move things, plain and simple.
