  • Is anyone else having issues uploading the required documents to the Kentech website? I tried on Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. It just says saving changes and does not let me continue to the next step. I am slightly worried because I am supposed to have all of the documents uploaded in the next 3 days. If I do not submit the required documents will I not be contacted by an investigator to set up my virtual at home interview? I suppose I will try to upload them again tomorrow. Anyone else having the same issue?

Try doing it in "incognito" mode. Sometimes scripts, ISP, or other software on a computer can interfere w/ a website. If your paying for an AV or have a VPN or a wonky ISP sometimes they stop traffic. Also disable the adblocker if you have one. Also if your not using a personal computer like a school or work computer that may also be the issue.

Open chrome and go to: chrome://extensions/
Make sure there isn't any AV toolbars and stuff.

were you eventually able to submit the required docs?

  • I was finally able to submit the required documents. It defiantly took a bit and the website ran very slow but it eventually worked properly.

whats your hiring process timeline looked like if you dont mind me asking

    • My CPD neighbor informed me he was contacted for a phone interview about me in early august so hopefully I should be moving forward soon

      Comment

      • I was also contacted by Kentech and did my interview already. I wonder when they will set up my polygraph? I know I am extremely close to the end. Yet, I know it is still a process and could take an extremely long. Anyone else have any idea how long it could take for them to set up your polygraph and inform you when you can take it.

After my interview by Kentech, it took over a year for the polygraph and over a year for the final power test and psych evaluation. During that time, I was already in metro academy.

To give you an idea on how long the process is…I had guys in my metro class years ago. They were in the process for Chicago, in fact, MULTIPLE years testing processes, and were hired by local agencies.

Some were just called in the last 6 months……we graduated the academy over 3.5 years ago. And yes, they were called from the 2016/2017 testing announcements.

If you want CPD, go get it. My advice is test everywhere, because you don’t know how long it will take. I’ve heard of lottery draws over 2/3000 getting called, and numbers in the teens never get a single call

      • CPD just announced another set of tests for October and December they must be struggling to recruit third set of tests for 2021

        • The CPD process has literally one of the most random timelines ever nothing is set in stone at all. I know people who wait years for a poly some heard una matter of days and in my case about a month. Sadly no one can give you a solid answer as to when or if you will move on to the next step. But Best of Luck to you all!! And if you have any questions I’m here! As well as for the new officers. I have been on the streets now about 5 months so still familiar with the fto process and stuff like that if you need help

          • The process varies for everyone because every part of the process is case by case meaning your hiring process might start with everyone in your group with the initial power test and then lets say Candidate A fails sit-ups portion and might get recycled into the next process. Candidate B moves on and then gets flagged for an answer of the PHQ. Candidate C moves on and gets to the background process and finally gets an investigator assigned and a poly date scheduled while candidate A and B are delayed in the process. Depending on the issue Candidate B got flagged for will determine how long they wait in limbo. Lets say Candidate B is 21 and only 3 years ago in high school he said he got into a fight senior year and was suspended for example. CPD decides to hold off on signing off on this candidate and wait until more time has passed and the candidate shows more maturity or "life experience".

Candidate C gets hired in 6-12 months because the variables all lined up (stars aligned perfectly lol the timing, scheduling, availability of investigators and timing of the next academy class all worked out). The world was also in perfect order no riots to interrupt academy staff/training, no hiring freeze, no covid to interfere with training....see where I'm going with this? Each candidate really knows what's holding them up for the most part and sometimes if its nothing too crazy TIME will help and you will get hired! Also remember the environment we are in. Not as many people want this job anymore and so its going to be where tests are throughout the year. We used to have thousands of people show up to tests and that is not the case anymore. A lot of retirements and people leaving for other places so CPD has to keep hiring. We have one thing going...finally settled the new contract yesterday. Good luck to you guys. I'm still out here. Be safe!

right now my reference contact list has been getting called by my investigator but i havent been contacted since the hiring event so they just seem to do things out of order depending on the candidate

          • bluesent I'm literally on here to help you guys so take it as you may. That was a hypothetical breakdown of a lot of variables that could factor into a candidate going through the hiring process. As I've stated before I am not in recruiting, hiring or background investigations I'm a beat cop but just ask HR my answers are from personal experiences and them flat out telling us this stuff. The department isn't looking for perfect people as I've also stated before. Good luck had nothing to do with me getting on. I took this test when it was 18-20K candidates.

I got hired and put it off because I was dealing with a dad that was terminally ill and everything that came along with that tragedy and compounded by losing a home to foreclosure so yeah that's just great luck. When I talk about not giving up and perseverance I speak from my heart. I waited 3 years to get back where I left off and continue with CPD. I worked hard to make ends meet and help my family which I still do so make no mistake I got to where I am in my life not because of luck but because I kept working hard and I kept trying even when I failed I learned from it and I kept trying harder and getting better.

I am first generation cop and first on CPD in my family. I'm not saying a longer process is necessarily a bad thing but people have different circumstances and life happens. If you really want it then keep at it and continue to test and be patient.

            • mwolf78 That means your file is getting worked on. No news is good news. Where are you in the process now? Also I don't know if this is still the case but every class is made up of a percentage of CPS (Chicago Public Schools), Veterans and Line of Duty preference points candidates so not uncommon to pull from different test pools to get that number. I know it doesn't make a lot of sense but give it time these CPD investigators have a lot of files and sometimes the only time you hear from them is they want you to update a copy of DL or vehicle registration or to let you know they submit your file up the chain for approval (usually a good sign btw). Have all your stuff in order and be ready to go because when things get moving it happens quick. Trust me I would love to have the extra help the last few days have been a s---tshow.

I submitted my DD214 when I did the in processing on July 31st but as long as they are going through the steps then I have peace of mind. I already have all of the required documents ready to go when they need it and I already have a Chicago address which should help the last bit of the process

mwolf78 Perfect then just standby and before you know it things will get going because trust when I say we need people and the city is ramping up the hiring process. PM me if you have any questions.

            • Anyone hear anything from their investigators? Starting to wonder if it’s worth my time to give the investigation department a call to see where I’m at?

First of all Congrats! do you happen to know what is after the Medical and the Psych Interview? Also a few other questions.

                1. Are the interviews with the Kentech investigator and Psych interview in person? or virtual?
                2. How was the polygraph? are you able to share any details or questions they may ask?
                3. written psych I believe is the 200-300 questions you answer right ?

I thought, for the sake of sharing information, I would post my timeline. Feel free to ask me any questions, although I’m probably no better suited to answer anything than anyone else.

              3/8/21 - applied
6/7/21 - CPD entrance exam taken at a testing center
7/1/21 - notified by email of passing score and lottery number
              7/25/21 - processing day/initial PFT
8/27/21 - interview with Kentech investigator
              9/1/21 - polygraph
9/5/21 - notified by Kentech investigator my BI is complete and my file will be returned to CPD
9/23/21 - contacted by CPD investigator to obtain two additional documents

Currently waiting on scheduling for my final PFT. I assume med and psych follow shortly thereafter.

Hope everyone’s files keep moving along.
That went by really fast for you. I know a lot of March 2021 applicants still haven't heard anything after the pre power test. That's awesome tho!

              • Does kentech send you for the polygraph or does CPD investigators send you for the polygraph. I was told by my kentech case manager that my file is now with CPD HR but kentech never sent me for a polygraph. Anyone else has the same issue?? I am part of the March 2021 application process.

CPD does the polygraph, not Kentech. The polygraph can be assigned before or during your background investigation.
