CPD - March 2021 New Applications

I also applied March 5 the email I received stated that open registration for the test is May 20 2021 and the test is begging of June 2021.

Did anyone else notice they stated 4-9 months till hired from date of application on the posting? Are they hurting that bad for people because everyone I know who works for CPD says they waited almost 2 whole years.

I took the written exam in December 2017 and was in the academy in July 2018. Many of the my classmates had a similar timeline. That was during Rahm's hiring push when we had 100+ new recruits each month. Now things have slowed down to a crawl with less people applying and the reduced class sizes due to Covid.

Applied the first day they posted it up on their website. I’m really excited. Anyone know if we take the DHR exam as soon as the application period has closed

It may sound like cliché but part of the reason that these first responder jobs are "a calling" so to speak is we do put a lot on the line for so little in return. Whether we do realize it or not we risk injury and death everyday and at times it's a very thankless job but every once in a while you get reminded why you took the job and that there are a lot of people that rely on you and appreciate what you do. Stay positive. I don't really sit around and think about it too much I just put on the uniform and do it all over again like the rest of the great men and women here and across the US. Our families sacrifice too so don't forget that if you take this job. You really have to want to do this and I like to come on the forums and help out with questions and stuff because I really do care about hiring good people. At some point you will be my backup and vice versa and we only succeed when we work together as a team.

You're not going to get along with everyone on the job and it's not perfect but that has never stopped me from helping my coworkers out and staying professional. I'm always happy to see the interest in applying so thank you for that. CPD is the 2nd largest police department in the US and there are a lot of opportunities here. Turnover and retirements opens new doors (you like that positive spin i put on that lol) and I still like my job so that's that and no I'm not a recruiter here or anything just a beat cop on the streets. I'm looking forward to seeing the hiring process ramp up. Be safe everyone and let us know how it goes!

Yes there is a manpower shortage. Between guys/gals retiring, guys/gals lateraling out or guys/gals who are just done with the profession there will be a mass exodus soon...

New forum member here, but I applied to CPD in 2017 and didn’t reach the credits minimum. However now that I have the credits I applied on this cycle, also currently on two lists for suburban departments.

Made it to the polygraph that’s was almost 2 years ago. Never heard anything again.
