Listen to Dang3rdoom45 . Also I haven't seen so many new people in my district like this in a long time. There are so many new PPOs that they have to split up people that are partnered up and we're forced to be FTOs lol. Did 120 start yesterday? That what I heard not sure though.

Does anyone one know the actual number for sit-ups for females in the 30’s bracket? I don’t know if it’s 20 or 24.

With the NEW PT standards, you are required to complete 20 sit ups.

Failed the power test today but I am supposed to show up Monday. The instructor said don’t work out or do anything just show up sooooo I’m like if I don’t workout on it then I’m def not going to pass again. The sit ups got me.

stretch and drink water. and if i remember correctly they dont mind if you wiggle on the way up, because in the academy for POWER tests they want you to keep going till the time stops and not just stop at the minimum score.

Well he’s kind of right because if you keep practicing sit-ups your core is going to be sore as hell by Monday. I’d say do some cardio but nothing too crazy

Wait, did Chicago LOWER the power test standards?!?! Or did the entire state change?

if they changed it, what are the standards now? I failed a power test before, then figured it out and it never happened again.

The state did lower the standards "kinda". The 1.5 mile that gets most people was not changed much for males. So you still need to be under the 14:34 mark for 30 plus and 14:00 flat for 20plus. Fortunately for the woman , they gave them an each min it seemed.

^ I’ve heard two mentions of power test standards being lowered. But I haven’t seen any official statements.

Considering towns are paying upwards of 20K lateral bonuses and retention in general is lower than the worlds finest navy, I’d assume the state probably is lowering the standards lol

Hey guys I've been at the academy getting some training done and good talking to some of you. Nice to see it finally filling up with recruits. To the new class that started yesterday looking sharp! Saw a few people get chewed out lol. I don't miss that. Stick with it. I promise it gets better at the academy and then death by power point and then you finally get to do some fun stuff hahaha. Keep in mind you're getting paid to sit in a classroom for 6-7 months with weekends and holidays off. Don't take that for granted. Once you get the discipline down it gets better trust me. I gotta say I love the energy of the new people that really gives me purpose here. As they will remind you at the academy have something that you love to do (hobby, etc) outside of this job and do it. You have to take care of yourself before you can help others. That is something that I personally try to work on (getting better) but it's hard to do sometimes here. Build up that comp time like a rainy day fund and extend those furloughs when you can. You will thank me later. Despite a lot of the craziness and bs here (I promise there is a lot of it here so I'm not trying to sugar coat it) it is still a job with benefits.

You can take the training and experience wherever if you don't like it after a few years. I have friends that went to suburbs, some across the country and some to federal agencies after CPD. People joke about CPD but you will learn here fast especially in busy districts but almost anywhere because the entire city is dealing with the trouble. There is a reason that doctors, nurses and medics visit internationally to train in hospitals here (I've seen it with my own eyes). If you learn nothing that is your own fault. I learn something new everyday. Never stop learning and growing as a PO. Please don't hesitate to ask for help. We don't expect you to know much once you hit the streets. You only have the foundation and tactics hopefully from the academy. Most of this job is learned on the streets through repetition. Please don't come out here with a know it all attitude. That will be checked real quick. I still don't "know it all" and ask people if I need something and sometimes I have people with 15 years on asking me and that's fine. We work together and figure it out! Safety comes first of course and the rest we figure out. Be safe and take care of yourselves. Looking forward to seeing you out here!

Hey, idk if you were ever an FTO or just dealt with a lot of rookies. But how are the FTOs out on the street when new people come out. Like what do they expect from the rookies. Because if im being quite honest my class is behind on classes because of not enough instructors or we don't get the best explanations on things. They always say you'll figure it out on the street...

We have like just over a month left and its a little concerning. I know i can handle my stuff but I still feel under-trained. like filling out reports, evidence, crash reports...all that was glossed over so quick.

For anyone who has taken the final power test recently what happens if you fail the 2nd retest? I know you only have 3 trys and from the first to 2nd try they give you 2-3 days before having to come back and do whatever you failed.. but if you fail the 2nd time do you have you retest again in 2-3 days? I heard something about you having 90 days to reschedule if you fail the 2nd time but wanted to see if anyone has more details on this

You have one more attempt to pass the FPT. If you fail the 3rd time or 90 days , you will have to reapply from what my BI informed me.

Hey Dang3rdoom45 in regards to your questions: It is natural to feel that way trust me we all did when we hits the streets. You are learning you just don't realize it! Everyone including the POs, FTOs, Sgts, Lts, etc understand that when you start that you really don't know jack respectfully and that's okay. Little by little you'll piece it all together. It takes an average about 2 years or longer for that true confidence in what the heck you're doing and independence and again you'll still be learning. I try to remind other POs to keep that in mind. When I hear a t-stop or job with an FTO/PPO especially I'll swing by if available. Like I said the safety stuff is first and foremost. We'll help you with the rest. It's our job to look out for you guys especially.

You're FTOs know to start slow and try their best to keep you out of the bs if possible but just remember that at the same time your training environment is now the real world so fake it til you make it lol. Also you might get an FTO that's great and on point and you might get someone that probably shouldn't be an FTO (no lie lol). That's okay too. Happens to all of us. You will learn something from everyone. Don't get frustrated even if you don't feel like you learn a lot on cycles. Experiences from your classmates is going to vary. I try to help where I can. You just have to ask people for help and I promise the overwhelming majority of us are very reasonable and willing to help. We've all been there. You're going to have an adrenaline rush those first several day so expect to be all amped up for the first time you get a job or go lights and sirens responding. I'll never forget how surreal that was like "Oh s!!$ I'm really doing this" Hahaha. You'll have fun. Make the best of it. It'll all become more natural don't worry!

They expect you to show up ready to go (half the battle)! As much as you think you might know...do more listening than talking unless you have questions. Take it one day at a time. No one expects you to know how to do everything. Learn how to take constructive criticism. Even if you're former military or police. It's a different ball game here. You are going to stand out even to the guys on the street. They'll know you're new and might test you. Don't let it get to you. Don't let your ego get in the way.

This job is about knowing how to talk to people/customer service at the end of the day and being the police when you need to when it matters. If POs need help (10-1) you go! It doesn't matter what district it is or if you're on a report or lunch you go. That's how I feel about it. One of the hardest things on this job is responding to coworkers getting shot and little kids getting shot and killed. Those you don't forget. Again have something outside of this job that you like to do. Don't stress and sweat the small stuff.

Question, family member taking the final power test Saturday. The run a little concerning, saturday high only 37 degrees. Assuming it’s at 6am. We looking at like 12 degree with windshield

Uhhhhh. I went to the METRO academy 5 years ago, we did our POWER test at Homan Square. I thought CPD did the same or if it was at the academy, you ran in the hallways 12 times

Took my FPT last Saturday (November 5th). I did my psychological and medical exam the last 2 days. Now Im just waiting on the NTR!! Class scheduled to start November 30th.
