Completed final psych interview this morning. Waiting game for the NTR e-mail for March academy. Good luck to everyone, and I really do appreciate every P.O. that took time out of their busy day to reply to our questions throughout this process, you are appreciated.

Relying on the VA to send that letter, buddy shoot.... start counting the years now
-
Finished my Psych interview this morning, I need to get the VA to send the psychologist my award letter for my disability. I have never done this before, usually I was allowed to send the document myself for other agencies. Anyone else do this before and how long did it take for the VA to actually send this document over?

508NAVY Hey man, I'm in the military too and while I get your point of view, it's not that serious and having someone who's a twig barely holding your feet isn't helpful. While I haven't ever failed a PT lest let alone for that reason it does require more effort for SOME. Myself included. I could not do proper sit ups without someone or weights holding me down or I'm lifting my legs up off the ground. If it were that easy for all then the test wouldn't require holding. But you aren't wrong, many people do make excuses for not passing and I see a lot of applicants really not even remotely putting in any effort. I'm also big on Integrity, but at the same time there's a whole lot of CPD officers wearing the uniform lacking it for far worse reasons than lacking in PT. It just takes discipline.Last edited by CptGlockMango; 03-14-2022, 11:41 PM.

I feel you. It really sucks to have someone who can't hold you down. Been there, done that. The best solution for that is to ensure you're next in line with someone that's big enough to hold you. If the issue is with your core, when you get to the end there are ways to utilize other parts of your body to get yourself up. It's not against the rules to shimmy a little side to side so long as your fingers remain interlaced behind your head and you don't fall flat on your back and you're coming up to 90 degrees. Other things to keep in mind: make sure your butt isn't so far away from your ankles you find yourself scooting yourself up during the sit ups (requires more effort and time to get back up) and BREATHE (out as you come up every rep). I've seen people fail for these very simple reasons. If you are in decent shape, It's all in the technique. Good luck and don't give up!!!!Last edited by CptGlockMango; 03-16-2022, 07:21 PM.

It took me over two months but that's because I was awaiting my (long overdue) FOID card. If it wasn't an issue I would have done my FPT in FEB with the rest of the people in my batch.

And here I thought I was the only March applicant still waiting. Final step scheduled for next week!
Best of luck everyone!!
Any advice from those currently at the Academy?Last edited by Zutana; 03-12-2022, 07:54 PM.

Yeah I’m very low in my confidence because of that number “25”. Probably took a while for me to digest and was trying to find excuses. But I should be more focused on achieving those numbers within the next couple days. I guess my last chance to put everything out there to wear the uniform.
I believe my fasting could also be a big reason but then I wonder how I managed the other portions.
I need to be well prepared now and focus solely on that is what I managed to figure out by the end of this bizarre day.

Exactly my point. “But just because of someone else”
This line of working isn’t about excuses. You’ll learn on the road people lie. You’ll also learn that in 21st century policing, the phrase “just because” or “someone else” isn’t getting you out of trouble, and in fact, will bet you INTO trouble because you’re not admitting fault.
My whole point was being 12 sit-ups off is because of these reasons:
1) YOU weren’t prepared-nutrition/sleep/alcohol/exercise
2) you figured you passed the IPA, so you’re good for the FPA.
3) there legitimately was a reason for you to be 33% short of the required baseline to pass.
I’m not attacking you, I’ve been in your shoes, I know it’s demoralizing. What I want you to understand is, you must take responsibility, even if it’s petty.
People who wear our uniform and violate integrity or LIE or don’t admit mistakes, are those who get the rest of us hurt.

508NAVY with all due respect I was the one who’s legs were being held so I know it better and I am no one to judge but just because of someone else I do not want to blow up the chance. Also note that I cleared my IPT with 10 seconds to spare. And have been working on my sit-ups. Thanks for the advice though. Will follow and hopefully come back on this forum with a positive reply that I did it. Cheers.

Don’t blame anyone holding your feet for doing 12
Less than the minimum. And Chicago isn’t as bad in terms of “form” like the state police academy. Even if someone is “soft” holding your feet, you should only be a few off if you fail, not 12.
If you’re 12 sit-ups off, that means you’re only training your body to do 37,and not 40 which Should be your goal.
Do more sit-ups every day. Decline bench, crunches, cobra stretches. The only way to get better is to do more.
And I understand how you feel. I went to the state academy 5 years ago and failed by 1 both times because of “improper form” I felt rejected and ****ed off, but it motivated me. A week after that debacle I did 2 power tests at NIPSTA and JJC and passed wirh flying colors, then got another job offer within a month.
Don’t hold your head. COME OUT STRONG YOU GOT THIS!Last edited by 508NAVY; 03-05-2022, 12:18 PM.

Hi Respected all,
I had my FPT today and I was able to do just 25 sit-ups. My minimum is 37. The guy holding my feet was very soft so I felt the burn since the beginning. I completed the run, lift and sit and reach perfectly. Also I’m given an opportunity for a retest next week, but I’m nervous now looking at the figures plus I’m observing lent so probably that is also draining my energy a lot. Hopefully I get it done. I don’t want rejection after reaching this far.

CptGlockMango .. polygraph was good I don’t have any problems with answering any of the questions asked I think it was way easier than cook county’s polygraph. I now should wait for results depending on how long it takes for me to get my results hoping I can get in soon. Based on your time line it looks like it took you 2 weeks after your polygraph to get the FTP notification.Last edited by Bluelife01; 03-03-2022, 07:21 PM.
