Did anyone apply this go around? I wonder how many applied

  • #2
They're always good for 70-100 applying. Lots of people flunk the written. If you pass, you go right next door to the gym for the POWER. Both knock out a ton of people. If you don't fall asleep in the oral board and have a clean background, you have a good chance of being hired.

Pretty sure they don't have body cameras, but they do have in squad cameras. They have at least 1 K-9 unit & a Tac/Gang Team. They also have booking officers.

I can't wait for all the dopey dopes who aren't Law Enforcement to come on here & **** on those interested in applying for Harvey PD. To anyone interested in getting your foot in the door in this profession, go ahead & apply. It's a very busy town with a lot of hot calls & tons of fun spillover from Riverdale, Dolton, Markham, etc. You just might get there, like it & stick around. If not, get some street experience & move on. Keep your nose clean & do the job right. That goes for anybody anywhere. And NO, I don't work there. Just putting in my 2 cents worth of free advice.

Does anyone know what happens now for those who passed the power test? They were kinda vague. Is there an oral interview portion?

I would imagine the remaining process is straight forward. They will conduct oral interviews & score the candidates. Then combine those results with the written test scores & come up with a final candidate ranking list. As they need recruits, they will go down the list with backgrounds, etc. If you aren't a total life screw-up with a criminal history & you have a pretty decent chance of being contacted before the list expires. Remember, as with any other list, applicants drop off because they get hired elsewhere first, get arrested, move out of the area, etc. Just keep going thru the testing process anywhere you might be interested in. Harvey in the past was good for sending 5-10 to the academy at once.

Each department has a different order in which they order the next steps. I believe Chiefs was asking about the specific order of things.

That could be true. Because the process Agent bond describes SOOOOOOO NOT how my dept does things.

^ Cause your Department is weird. The process he described is how 97.6% of the departments do their processes. Power was just pass/fail. Then they would usually interview the top 20/30 after the written. Then preference points and that creates the list. Then when they are hiring, that’s when they would move onto background, psych, poly and usually medical.

Typically smaller departments don’t send their initial people through background phases due to workload on their detectives, money, etc.

Ive been involved in hiring processes that are nothing like my current PD, nor like most others.

When I was in Washington, I had a department where the first step was during orientation, you met with command staff they would ask you questions mainly about city. Standardized questions

So agencies don't compile initial eligibility lists anymore based on the Power Test, Written & Oral Exams? And then contact people in order for the remaining steps? That's how it was when I was sent to the academy many years ago. Lists were supposedly good for 2 years, unless exhausted. Chicago was different obviously. If it's different now, please share.

Some departments make their lists based solely on the written test, but if you would read what I wrote, you will see that each department does the next steps in a different order (polygraph, psych evaluation, etc) and Chiefs is likely wondering about the specific next step for this particular department.

Apparently Harvey didnt pay their phone bill and their emergency lines got disconnected today. Not sure if its true or not.

Did you apply? Because you went on a really long rant about how nobody should want to work there because of their pay.

You literally created an entire thread bashing the starting pay at Harvey and questioning anyone who would be willing to work there. Now here you are 4 weeks later, inquiring about the process.

                Life comes at you fast.

Perhaps you took my advice and humbled yourself.

I heard on the news the other day that the Mayor or Chief in Dolton are trying to get some Fed dollars to expand the PD by 20 more coppers. Might be something to watch for. They have been making progress turning that PD around from where it was 10 years ago.

I'm reading this late but I figure i'd still give some information. At orientation few months back they stated 150 applied, at written about 100 showed up, only saw about 38 make it to power, and I'd day half failed. Did the oral boards, and then was told they were starting backgrounds on everyone. 3 weeks later I went in for a chiefs interview which was more like a meet and greet. Small questions really. Told me they were trying to hire as many qualified candidates as possible depending on budget. Only saw 2 others waiting on my date for chiefs interview, I was there 1.5 hours early, but a lot more for orals. Havent heard anything yet since, about 3 months now. Nor have I received a list. Does anyone think I should call and ask for update? Or sit and wait a bit more?
