Perhaps this could be the thread for all of us that do work for the CCSO.. to discuss our jobs, pose questions, complaints, etc..

And I will start with a rather "noobish" question from my end...

It seems that this summer I have been picking up and or dropping off a lot of family to either O'Hare or Midway airports. With family (the wife especially) I always park in the hourly lot and walk into the terminal/baggage claim areas that non-flyers are fully permitted to enter.

I am not in uniform when I go pick them up or drop them off. I am in plain clothes and carrying concealed with all my credentials on me, etc..

Are we allowed to do that at the airports?

Yes, but you cannot enter a secured area.

Ok, that is what I was hoping to hear. Thank you for the response.

Even if it wasn't allowed, would it REALLY change you carrying in Umm, but your question had nothing to do with working for C.C.

My question had to do with being an officer with CC. Hence why I said that, perhaps, this thread could be for all of us officers that do work with the CCSO. Be it whatever topic that may entail.

It is a BIG assumption that TSA will know the rules

Then to benefit all of us, could you please give us a "Cliff's Notes" version of the rules then.

Like how much authority TSA has outside the secured area!

or how TSA treated myself and my partner like shyte when we went to handle a job at Midway. Or how we had to be "escorted" because we were armed by an unarmed TSA guard and his equally unarmed supervisor. I guess if we went off and started shooting up the airport, they'd disarm us with their "wands." Basically the same same guards that were there prior to 9/11 in a federal wrapper.

Well, who would be their back-up the unarmed D.O.A. Police? LOL. I can't make TOO much fun of DOA because I have a buddy who WAS one, but is now in the Acad for CPD. And yes, I have been in both Midway and O'Hare enough to know that CPD is more of a presence than D.O.A. Hey, but I'm sure getting hit in the head with the metal detector wand would hurt, and chances are I can only run so fast away once I have my shoes off and in the bin...LOL!

They must hate me then... I was at O'Hare (8th time this year) again last night to pick a family member up and I was there with my concealed weapon, cuffs, and I even had my duty radio tucked in my pocket.

Simple. If you are armed, you cannot enter with your weapon. Unless you're conducting official business. That can range from many things, but picking up family is not one of them.

None really. The only authority outside the checkpoint is the airport LEO's. In NY/NJ we have the Port Authority.

I wouldn't really say the same guards. We are a bit more trained than them and have better equipment. It all depends on the person. If you take your job seriously, you will do the right thing. Problem is, TSA will hire anyone.

And sorry to hear about your situation. I treat all LEO personnel with full respect and I get along with all of them. I do know that some people take their TSA jobs way too serious and think they are above others. Sound like you happened to run into them.

And in NY, a armed LEO would be escorting you, not a TSA employee. So if you happened to start shooting up the place, they would send the SWAT team in. We had one passenger who entered and stated he had a gun, and not in the "oops, I forgot it". More like, "If you check me, I'm going to use it" way. We called the LEO's and they came with shotguns and rifles drawn.

Like I said, different airports have different personnel I guess. Sad to know there aren't any armed LEO's at the airport. Also, if you are armed, I see no reason as to why you are removing your shoes.

If you are not nearing the checkpoint, then I doubt they are bothered by your presence the least bit. And even if you were, I wouldn't understand why they would be bothered.

Believe me guys, I've seen the morons you speak of. It is sad that they are employed by the TSA, but dont just make assumptions about the entire work force. It makes you just as bad as the guy who is speeding, and when caught by an irate officer, goes around basking cops everywhere.

Anyway, good luck in your ventures and stay safe.
