Anyone know anything about working for the UC PD?

What do you want to know? It's not civil service, so no civil service protections. They've had a few guys go back to P/O from Sgt. to have union protections. Have to work until 67 yo to "max" out your pension, which is figured with social security added in. Get on at 21 years old, you'll work 46 years to get about a $4K a month pension. Good for getting academy, some street experience and going to school, then get on a "real" municipal PD.

46 years of service? Lmao. No thanks! It's a starter or retirement PD like most colleges/universities catch is you need a bachelor's degree or some service I believe to apply.

They work 12 hour shifts, a lot of officers leave for the above listed reasons. It is very political as it is both a university and a private police department. Hyde Park has definitely changed (for the better) over the past 5 years, but there is still a lot of crime around the area. A lot of jobs are given to CPD or handled by CPD unless it directly involves the university (think opposite of UIC)
