    CPD Duty Availability

Does anyone know when you qualify for duty availability? Is it once your out of the academy, after 1 year, or 18 months?

You have to wait 12 months after you graduate from the academy to start working?

No, it's a separate pay check that P.P.O.'s do not get. You still work but are considered a P.P.O. hence no duty availability.

          I thought you are a P.P.O. for 18 months, not 12 months.

When they extended the probationary period from 12 to 18 months an agreement was made regarding which benefits would be available after the 12 months. Apparently Duty Availability was one.

You are a PPO for 18 months. 6 months on the academy, and then 12 months on the street.

                I give up:
                What is duty availability?

Is duty availability a shift premium for 3rd shift?

We need some CPD in here to correct us all... but I always had the understanding that duty availability was extra pay for the sheer fact that CPD can be called to duty 24/7/365.

After 12 months, meaning 6 mths. in the academy and 6mths. on the street, you are eligable for duty availability. This goes to all PO's regardless of what watch they are on. It's $2,920 per year divided into four payments of $730. This year it will be paid out on the 7th of Jan, Apr, July, & Oct.

Supposedly, our duty checks are available on JAN 10, APR 10, JUL10, and OCT 10 for $730.00. However, this amount varies depending on what you claim for tax purposes. And yes, duty availabillity is rewarded for being available 24/7/365. I could be wrong, but that's the way I've always understood our duty checks. Hope this helps.

That makes sense. I take it you can't 'opt out', forfeit the bonus and not worry about your phone ringing at an inopportune time?

Nope, but the truth is the phone doesn't ring at inopportune times for the most part.
