Marshall/Deputy Marshall??????

Can someone please elaboarte more on this for me. I scoured google for over 3 hours and came up with 2 links that lead me no where.

Are they considered police?
Have police powers?
Where are they?
What townships/villages?

From what I've seen, they do have police powers but only in that particular town/village.

Harvey has them.

They do fugitive investigations, protect the federal courts downtown, and do prisoner transports. They have an office in Chicago and one in Rockford. They do a lot of protection details for VIPs and witnesses. (They run the federal witness protection program.) Deputy Marshals and above are full fledged federal law enforcement officers.

If in fact your are talking about US Marshal's. They are only allowing federal LEO's and military to test at this time. I have not heard when they were going to let civilians test again. www.usmarshals.gov. To me the Marshal service is bad @ss. That is what I have always wanted to do. I have a buddy who is an ICE Agent and he is currently testing with the Marshals. I can talk with him and get more info if you would like. Just pm me.

I think the OP was talking about town marshals not U.S. Marshals.

Severe you are correct sir. Any other towns besides the Harvey.

Use to be several small towns in rural counties in IL that used the title "marshal". Don't know how many still do. If you really need to know you can contact the ILETSB who might have that answer.

I'm sure I've seen a Town Marshal in Norridge, Illinois a few years ago. Didn't think anything of it at the time, but I'm curious now too !!!

Norridge has Auxiliary Police, and I know Harvey has a very controversial part-time police program, especially under the current mayor. Perhaps the Marshal title is just another name for the part-time and/or auxiliary police?

just a little advice from an officer who has stopped a couple of those "marshalls" from harvey, do with it what you will...



they are very sloppy, poorly trained and a poor excuse for a LEO, at best they are glorified meter maids, they are only allowed to carry while in harvey and that is more than enough... from what contact i have had with them i got a very poor perspective, mostly due to the audacity of them to pass themselves off as full-time officers and treat the uniformed police conducting the stop like crap!
