    The Arlington Heights Police Department is seeking police officers.

    The Arlington Heights Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of probationary police officer. We typically hire up to six to twelve officers per year.

    Starting pay for entry level police officer is $65,133 effective January 1, 2017. Patrol officer top pay is reached in 4 1/2 years, currently at $98,951. Contractual increases to $103,582 in 2019.
    • All uniform equipment supplied upon hire excluding handgun
    • Longevity Pay starts with five years of service at $900 with increases to $1,600 at 20 years.
    • Patrol Bureau works an 8 ½ hour shift. Officers work six days on and have three days off.
    • Officers with 1 to 4 years are given 10 vacation days and 12 floating holidays per year (pro-rated in the first year).
    The Arlington Heights Police Department currently has an authorized strength of 109 sworn officers. Upon successful completion of the 18 month probationary period, an officer can apply to openings within specialty assignments. Specialty assignments include approximately 18 positions in the Criminal Investigations Bureau, three officers assigned to the Traffic Bureau, and three officers assigned to the Community Services Bureau. Officers participate in task forces with the DEA, North Central Narcotics, and MCAT. Specialties within the Patrol Bureau include Canine Handler, Field Training Officer, Forensic Technician, Bicycle Officer, Motorcycle Officer, Traffic Crash Investigator, NIPAS EST and Mobile Field Force.

    The Village has finalized plans to begin constructing a new police station anticipated to open in 2019.

    Requirements:

    $25.00 non-refundable application fee
    21 years old by date of written exam (Jan 20, 2018); maximum age of under 35 years unless the age limit is reached after being placed on eligibility list (unless otherwise exempt by Statute)
    High school diploma
    Associates Degree OR 60 semester hours from an accredited institution (original, official transcripts in sealed envelope required)
    Applicants must submit proof of passing the POWER Test within ONE YEAR PRIOR to the written exam date (January 20, 2018). Must be from approved licensed POWER Testing location (see below)
    Have vision correctable to 20/20
    Be a U.S. citizen and have a valid driver’s license
    Pass all stages of the hiring process
    Pass a comprehensive pre-employment screening process to include: background investigation, polygraph, psychological and medical examination with drug testing.
