Doctors and lawyers are two of the fields that I prefer the ones who made straight 'A's and were top-notch.
Cops need to have average intellegence and above average physical skills. CPD is a real 'melting-pot', and there are all kinds there. Overall, the CPD is an excellent agency; if I weren't so darn old, I'd apply myself.

Maybe they are just more particular?

    Ever thought of that?

Why is it taking almost a year to get our results? Most suburban depts get results within a month or two. Why is Chicago so different? Doesn't chicago want the best of the best? Most qualified people will be on the top of suburban dept lists and probably have been hired by now. That leaves Chicago with the people at the bottom of the list. If I ever finally get hired, I do not want to be working with people who were all from the bottom of the barrell. There are alll these stories around the country that PD's are having a difficult time recruiting PO's. Shouldn't Chicago being doing everything they can to get all these higly qualified people who want the job, rather than stringing them along for a year before the test results even come out (not to mention how long the rest of the process will take). The top scorers on the CPD test have probably already been hired by sububan depts, have completed the academy and are already on the street and Chicago has not even given out the test relust yet!
Go test somewhere else then. Don't forget the politics involved in the process. If you really think Chicago only wants the best of the best you are naive.

I agree, with the general concensus that enough is enough with the complaining. However, those of you that keep telling us all that this is the way it is and all, well when we went for this test they told us the computer option was meant to speed up the process. That obviously hasn't happened, so maybe you could begin to understand to see why some people are frustrated. First we were told a couple months wait, and after that it kept growing and growing( the wait) and now its indefinite. Yeah its frustrating but its something I came to terms with a long long time ago. So I suggest others do too. Like everyone else says: " If you want it bad enough, you'll do anything to make it work." Keep on Keepin' on.

That may annoy you and others but it is for a reason. If you think hiring process is protracted and slow how do you think the agency itself is in repsonding to other issues.....take a look at what you are getting yourself into wannabe crimefighter.....chicago is not gonna issue a cape.

I love this line from LegacyCPD....
Bottom line is that I don't understand why people are irritated by our complaining.

There is an old saying...."The squeaky wheel gets the most grease"....the other half of that phrase is...."its also the first one replaced!"

I have to agree with Cityblusuit. It’s not a perfect process, but it’s the one they have. Getting a reputation as a "squeaky wheel" is bad....There is a difference between bitching and complaining. A legitimate bitch is OK, don't complain. If CPD is your goal, then waiting will be worth it. All the more sweet at the end.

How do you know that you yourself are not at the bottom of the barrell? Don't count your chickens before they hatch man...or pick a different line of work..

This is the one part I disagree with. Just because a person tests well does not mean he/she will be a better police officer. Not by a long shot! The initial ranking has nothing to do with how he/she will perform on the job. This may seem to defy logic, but the testing process is far from perfect...or even able to successfully predict job success.

It may be part of a 'weeding-out' process. It could be part of the test to see who will not give up. CPD has some of the best officers in the world and are more on the 'Cream of the Crop' end than the "Bottom of the Barrel' end.
If it is so frustrating, apply to some other departments; IF CPD ever calls you,
quit the other agency to follow your dream.
If it is meant to happen, it will, if not------------.

All I know is that by time CPD releases the results, the count of applicants availb. will probally drop a ton because of the long *** wait. I bet there are tons of applicants that have been hired else where or moved, or whatever. In Feb, there were 4000 applicants or so, there will probally be 2500-3500 that will be concidered and tested further. Much more opportunity!!!!

I am in the same boat as everyone else here (Aug 06 exam) and I know it hasn't been as long as you Feb 06 test takers but its time to focus on something else for real. I really don't think about it until I come on these forums to see whats going on about CPD. Work the job, go out and have fun, workout, do something other than think about the exam. Its going to come.....As we all know the last exam is in November and then December, and finally January 07....Where we should know the results ...So, yes it sucks that we don't have any results..Hell, I don't like knowing either about the results(Then I could focus more of my energy on the POWER test) But we all have to hang in there.....IT WILL COME, FOCUS ON SOMETHING ELSE AND THE TIME WILL FLY BY....

I'm with 'Dog. I'm also waiting for my results and wish they'd arrive but we're all in the same boat and complaining is useless, wasted energy. I'd also gently suggest that it doens't reflect well on the complainer. For me, it's CPD or nothing.

agreed. This is not the 80's and 70's like everyone is quick to point. If it took 8 years in the past to get hired it should not be like that now. The city should learn how to improve. It comes down to them not really carrying as they know people are going to apply. I see no reason though why other large departments like NYPD or LAPD at least let you know if you have passed in a much shorter time period.

All I can say is it gets a bit old when it seems like every 1 out of 2 posts here complains about the CPD process. Nothing new is being added besides saying "yup another month down with no results." Not that is is a big deal, I know those of us that don't care about the CPD process could just plain not read the post, but it is time to start talking about something new, my $.02. But best of luck to you guys, hope it pans out.

Guido, I think you took my point all wrong. I am just saying times have changed and CPD has to adapt. Back in the 80's and 90's when CPD gave a test, over 30,000 poeple took the test when they were given. So even if the first 10,000 got sick of the wait and went on elsewhere, CPD could still find enough of "the finest" out the 20,000 people that were left. But these days when only 2,000 to 3,000 people take the test, I think CPD has to be a little more on the ball.
