    The Winthrop Harbor Police Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill seasonal positions as Community Service Officers on our North Point Marina Security detail. These positions begin on April 1st and continue through October 31st (training begins March 14, 2015). Community Service Officers who successfully complete the hiring process and work through the season may be invited to return for subsequent seasons.

    North Point Marina hosts seasonal festivals, fishing and boating events, as well as free launch facilities, fishing piers, picnic areas and a public beach. Security for North Point Marina is provided through the administration and direction of the Winthrop Harbor Police Department. North Point Marina is the largest inland marina in the United States, with over one million visitors per season.

    Successful candidates will possess excellent communication skills both in person and in writing. They will bring a high level of energy to the position and will be adept at managing multiple tasks effectively. Must be able to learn and leverage new skills quickly in a fast paced environment. Good people skills are necessary as demonstrated by a “can-do” attitude, consistent good judgment, superior problem solving skills, an even temperament, and an understanding of the TEAM concept. The Marina CSO position is a civilian, non-sworn security position.

    Security personnel duties include:
    - Boat slip safety & security checks
    - Security checks on State supported property
    - Vehicle parking enforcement
    - After-hours transient boat slip assignment
    - General assistance to the Marina community

    Additional Information:
    - Three shifts available. Security is present 24/7 throughout the season.
    - Flexible schedules, ideal for college students
    - Training provided, including -
    o CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation)
    o AED (Automatic Electronic Defibrillator)
    o MDC (Mobile Data Computer)
    - Pleasant outdoor work environment
    - Starting wage of $9.50 per hour during 90 day probationary period
    - Increase to $10.00 per hour after successful completion of probationary period
    - Wage step increases for 2nd, 3rd and 4th seasons
    - Physical screening required
    - Pre-employment and random drug screening required
    - Valid driver's license required
    - Ability to pass standard Law Enforcement background check required

    Community Service Officer Position
    - Minimum age at time of application: 18 years
    - North Point Marina Security positions are seasonal (April 1st through October 31st)

    How to apply for the North Point Marina Security Officer position -
    Prior to being invited to complete an Employment Application, interested parties must complete an Employment Interest Form. Click the link on the Employment Opportunities page at www.whpd.org to download the form, complete it, and then it may be submitted in any one of four ways -
    - FAX it to the attention of Officer Chad Murphey at 847-872-0190, or
    - E-MAIL it to [email protected], or
    - MAIL it to the Winthrop Harbor Police Dept., 830 Sheridan Rd., Winthrop Harbor, IL 60096, or
    - DELIVER it to the Police Department in person.
    After your Employment Interest Form has been reviewed, you will be notified if you qualify to submit an Employment Application.

    Important Dates:
    - Employment Interest Forms will be accepted through 5 pm on February 7, 2014.
    - Qualified candidates will be notified by February 9th, and Employment Applications will be due by 5pm on February 13th.
    - Personal interviews will be conducted February 17th through 21st.
    - Training will be conducted on Saturdays, March 14th, 21st and 28th. This is mandatory for all CSO's.
