A co worker of mine was top 10. Passed everything and not hired. So, if you're applying with no preference points, you'll have a better shot hitting a home run blind folding on the first pitch of spring training.

When I was taking college classes I had a guy in my class he applied scored like an 104 and he was in the 1xx range. He said the turn out was HUGE.

I was at the last test in winter of 2011, they had a good 500+ applicants then. If you arent eligible for any preference points, do NOT waste your time, because you wont even have a shot.

Update on the testing this time around:
Former Chief said at orientation 380 applied, by the time we got to the written that number was down to 202 that should've been there. Written test was done by IPSP and took quite some time due to the mandatory two hour study session before. It was also said during orientation they were authorized to hire 7 right now and in the future will be going to a one year list. I thought it was strange that there was no mention of an oral board on any of the paperwork or during orientation, Tinley Park is the only other department that I know of who didn't have an oral as part of the process. Applicants were told to expect hearing something by the end of July. Good luck to the rest of you who applied this time around!

Overheard they took the top 30 spots to proceed with testing. It's not confirmed unless anyone on here is in the top 30. If it is, count on January Academy.

If anyone out there could pm me with a little more detailed info on the department it would be greatly appreciated. I'm deep in the process now with them and one other department.

Hired ten for January Academy. Three have completed up to their pyschs and started backgrounds.

I'll continue this thread from the grave. How is morale at Aurora? I see they upped their payscale quite a bit. Not to mention their super fancy police department.

What was the pay before. If I was still trying to get on. I would jump on this bandwagon

Just seen their post that they are hiring. I think the app fee was pretty high but can't remember now. It's a big department should have a good chance.

Whoa!....That has to be a mistake. You have to wait 5 years to see that jump to $36/hr not 6 months lol. Still a nice scale though. This is directly from the City of Aurora:

                                Annual Rates of Pay
Annual Rates of Pay Positions and Periods of Service 1/1/2016
                                Starting salary - 6 months $48,110.40 ($23.13/hr.)
                                From 6 months - 1 year $64,126.40 ($30.83/hr.)
                                From 5 years - 10 years $76,440.00 ($36.75/hr.)
