Probably didn't slap the mag in, jumped out of her car and didn't hear the mag end up in the car seat. She can carry a rifle, yet I can't take the rifle class for another 2 1/2 years. The world makes sense!

Well if she's got one chambered, she has a one shot throwaway.

Possibly, but if the mag wasn't seated all the way it probably didn't chamber a round when she cycled the bolt...

It does not appear to be a short mag loaded but rather an empty magwell.

And unless the GO has changed 10 round mags are not authorized, 20 or 30 only

Who ever took these pictures, was fond of the two ladies and the hair braid officer.

When did the Chicago Police start wearing those black vests?

The last time I lived in Chicago they were still wearing their blue and white shirts.

"Word has it barb west doesn't want officers to carry a rifle because it scares the public. Since she knows she can't stop officers from carrying one she doesn't let them have them loaded, they are empty. In fact here is a pic from the tribune with an officer from 015 at the scene of a shooting with an empty rifle."

Again this is someone else's comment, take it for what it's worth. I guess there may be more to this story after all!

"Wait sir, please put that gun down while I load my rifle first"......seriously what person thinks it's a good idea to have a firearm out and not loaded...action is faster than reaction. What's next..carrying a handgun that isn't charge

Is this in 07,08, or 09? I think I spoke to her once.. And at least she is kinda cute...I would hate for the criminal element to catch wind of this. "Police without bullets", think of the mayhem!
Well on second thought can't be worse than what we have now.

The sad thing is that I've heard of various Sgt's, Lt's and Commander's having issues with the rifles. Which is why you are supposed to leave the bolt-obstructer in the rifle while in the stations, not load mags while in the station or bring them back with anything loaded. These people think rifles go off on their own and that you can't be safe with them. It's ridiculous.

re: being told not to load.......
we had a "big" boss tell us not to chamber a shotgun round at a barricaded/armed suicidal one rainy night.....we took certain orders from our 2nd in command that night, needless to say

I'm glad I work on a PD that allows me to decide which weapon to deploy when I feel it is appropriate, and they believe loaded is always appropriate. It's nothing for us to deploy rifles on bank alarms, any call of man with a gun, or on any call the Officer deems it's appropriate.

The photo was taken in 015 but I do not believe that officer works in 015 so most likely a saturation or VRI team. Every cop I have seen in 015 has their rifle properly loaded so the comment about Commander West seems far fetched, but I have been wrong before and I wouldn't put it past a boss to say something like that. I'll also add it is against general orders to have no mag in the weapon or have a spare mag on hand. Chamber blocks are required while being transported only
