    • I've tested 5 times and never gotten a tattoo letter. I wonder if they only send it out if you're getting hired?

      • Well I think they just started the tattoo letters last year.

        • when i tested in December 15 (springfield), we were actually told to email pics of all our tattoos and given and email address to send them too at central screening. I then received an email letting me know they were recieved. Not sure if it really means anything other than the fact they want to see everyones tats....I'm sure it's about gang affiliation, etc.

Seems you should have gotten higher with military... Stateville is very very competitive these days, I wish you luck, we need all the help we can get.

I agree with Magnus Stateville is pretty competitive. Everyone I was hired with (the last COT class) had scores of 70's, 80's , and 90's. I have friend down at the academy now and she only scored in the 60's. Don't get discouraged though your score is good for a year. Good luck!

😲 Guess I just suck, haha. I didn't have any points for education, I know that was a 20 I wasn't getting. I scored the 65 but I'm guessing that wasn't with the military points added since the VA is the one who dictates how many points are to be rewarded. But I honestly don't know. I've got a few months left on my current score. I'll just wait it out.

Statesville and Dixon. I only got a score of 60 though so according to what people are saying on here I most likely will not get Statesville.

                        • I have read a lot of the comments on here and a lot of them are inaccurate. Stateville hires according to their needs. The score has little to do with it despite what you hear. I have been on now for almost a year. I worked with people that have graduated with me, before, and after and all the scores are different some very low and some very high. The idea that a score would keep you out of stateville is not true. Passing is the only way you will get in, if you fail just retest.

The real fact is who will stay working after they get to their facility. I have seen people drop out in the academy after 2 days to 1 week to just before the last day. Not getting kicked out of the academy should be your only concern if you get the call. One day before graduation I seen a cadet get escorted out for racist behavior. Once you finish, it will be how you handle the JOB once your on. I have seen people quit the FIRST DAY on the job. Like after 4 hours ( never returned after lunch) to weeks later to a few months.

If you make it all the way to your respective facility be ready for people that live and work there. If youre a women, be doubly tough. The mind set of many of the OLD regime is to be tough on you and women don't rate high on the scale to respect. Just get passed COT status and get CERTIFIED. I know I know all of you tough guys out there that say this is easy, or I got this right up to you get attacked and when your called every name in the book don't get upset. This job will test you beyond your imagination. Also be ready for some boring aspect of the job as well. Learn the small things that your required to do. I have run across officers that have been there 10, 15 years and don't know how to work towers, gates, tiers, or know office work.

I believe that if you get the call, work hard and smart you will make it, don't listen to the school yard gossip and do your job you will have no issues. DON'T believe everything you hear, check out the facts for yourself, from vacation time to holiday pay to bumping shifts. I suggest you GET THE FACTS FIRST then this way you heard it from the horses mouth so to speak. Do officers get attacked, YES it happens, not all the time but it does happen. Females, I say learn from other females if you can. Follow the rules and most importantly don't walk near the cell doors you will get grabbed. If youre a beautiful female well it will be worse for you. Guys are guys and you will have it harder then most. I will answer questions if you have them, but trust me, in this job you watch your 6 all the time even with other officers.

The job could be a stepping stone for you onto other jobs in LE, or a 30 year career that's up to you. But make NO MISTAKE this is an all male climate and it will be tough. I don't want to discourage anyone from a career at IDOC but please get facts first, don't listen to gossip and learn everything you can.

IMPORTANT FACTS: when you qualify and you get to your facility please apply for your CCW permit as soon as possible. It takes a long time to get, 3 to 6 mos. If you wait longer it will take longer trust me on this. Join all the organizations you can as well, Union is automatic, FOP union, and others. If you like PO ( POLICE OFFICER) plates, you need to be an FOP member. Your facility will have that info for you ((((THE ACADEMY WON'T)))!!!!!!. Be active in your union that's the only way we keep benefits and keep our union strong!!!

Hope this helps and Good luck to all you future cadets and graduates.....

I'm sure this is chopped full of useful information, but couldn't read it all seeing as the first few sentences were a fallacy. If your score didn't matter, then they wouldn't issue them... Make that make sense, and you can have my state fish tray on Friday .

No, it is not impossible to get on with a low score, but you are hired in order of your score and that should never be deviated from...that's not a Stateville thing that's a state thing. Your suggesting it's like a random lottery if you pass, which couldn't be further from the truth.

                            The factors that matter:

#1 and most important, passing! 2, your score, and then and only then a combination of how many they need, timing and where you fit on the list. You could have a score of 65, and if the last class had people in it from 100-66, granted they didn't proctor another test in between, that puts you next on the list.

                            • I don't really need to change anything, I stand on all the information I gathered from people, exp, knowledge, working in the offices (several) and good ol chatting with people. If the needs dictates to the facility and you score low, you STILL can get in at stateville. Again facility need is always going to trump scores. If you 70% of 500 people score 35 - 40...and the rest score 70 - 80% but cant get passed a BG check....or something else blocks them they will start taking them 40 and 35 scores to fill positions....Just saying I use all of the possibilities that could and have happened.....Murphy's Law.... Just test and wait...if you feel your score is low RE TAKE...but I don't see it necessary to.

Well that's a given... Of course if someone background doesn't clear in time they'll go on to the next... That's not a score not being important, and it's an isolated incident for the most part one that someone shouldn't even consider as as factor in them getting the job. It's the equivalent of praying for a clerical error.
