Just wanted to get people's thoughts on this Topic. I was watching a few videos on YouTube last night, and thought i'd post here and see what everyone thinks. So do you guys think Concealed Carry would be A + for the State Of Illinois by decreasing Crime Rates? and how would you guys as Officers feel about it if IL adopted the law?

If competent and well trained people were allowed to have a ccw, ill be fine by that. As long as they were competent and well trained. Though the way I see society, that is only a few.
Just hope that the crazy old lawn guy down the street doesnt decide to shoot kids for stepping on his chicago front lawn. Oh dear. -
Yes, that's true. The way Crime Rates are jumping in IL, I'm thinking maybe in the near Future IL would probably adopt the Law, and have something to separate Nut Cases from the ones who feel they need the protection carrying Concealed, But that's just my opinion.Countryside Police Department

Well we have the FOID card, so why not uise that as a litmust to seperate the nutcases from the others? I mean it works right and keeps criminals from obtaining guns?
My opinion is that people should be allowed to carry as the law only prevents law abiding people from carrying firearms. I don't see a drastic change happening but I would be ok with having to pass a qualification test and a test.Comment

I like the idea of CCW if there were a one time Psyche test, one-time firearms class, yearly qualification test, and yearly drug test. I mean, its a shame it can't be like Vermont (maybe it was Virginia?) where once you are 18 you just walk in and buy, but that is not the reality of the society in our state (specifically the Northeastern area of Illinois....)
I agree with this. The problem with FOID is that you have no history of criminal activity or Psych problems in order to obtain it, but who is to say you wont have it, once you get to carry? How many "good citizens" can get road rage out of no where, or get drunk at a bar and end up pulling out the gun in a state of rage or high emotion? Also chances are that when and if the time came to pull that gun out, many people would not really know how to act or go through with it, opening up to the possibility of the "bad guy" taking your gun away or worst missing him/her and hitting an innocent person.
It's best to be aware of your surroundings, avoid bad areas, learn some basic self defense, and try be with somone else. Nothing in this world (matirialistic speaking) is worth your life.Comment

If criminals are already getting their hands on the guns then why not law abiding people get vetted through a process and then be able to carry firearms?Comment

Ok not to be rude but this is a forum where you ask questions. You dont have to insult me for asking, and you dont have to reply if you dont like what you see simple as that, Other Officers are not giving me any lip over it why should you? it never hurt to ask after all if you dont ask you'll never know
Just as you think he doesn't have to reply if he doesnt like your thread, you dont need to like his comments. But then again this is america. Where everyone has the right to express their opinions, as long as they don't differ from yours.Comment
