Do you guys think we will receive anything stating that they posted the new eligibility list or do you think we will just have to keep checking on their website? As for the letter/e-mail: I received the e-mail like 2 days after the test and the letter like 3 days after the e-mail. Either way, good luck to everyone.

Hey guys not to burst anyones bubble, but a buddy I work with was on Des Plaines for a few months and then he and a few other officers were laid off due budget restraints. So if I were you guys make sure you ask questions pertaining the job security. Would hate for anyone to get on and then laid off. Just a little fyi, do with it as you please. They had to have a test, probably chiefs nephew wants to be a cop

DPD has not laid off any Police Officers as of yet!! They are on a freeze til next spring but who isnt

I have a friend on Des Plaines PD and he said the same thing. No layoffs for officers but none being hired til next year.

Well that is good news. It is a scary reality to think that departments are actually laying off their sworn officers.

In addition to this, I thought they mentioned at orientation that they (DPPD) currently had positions available but were unable to hire anyone at the current time due to financial constraints but planned to do so in their next fiscal year. After this, I believe the chief said that they (the department) was also in the process of offering some of their officers "buy-outs" in order to free up a little money to hire some new officers.

They said they had 6 open positions, and were offering buy outs to those close to retirement, but they didn't know if they were going to fill those open positions since they didn't have the budget this year. Its possible that next year they get the budget to fill them again, and all of a sudden they hire 6 off the bat, so you never know.
