    Yes, it might pose a a problem. Go to http://www.post.ca.gov/selection/pdf/Musculo.pdf and read the section on applicants who have had Lumbar Disk Surgery on page VII-11.

    It indicates the back injury rate for peace officers who have had lumbar surgery is six times higher than normal, It also indicated the need for repeat surgery or disability retirement in 50% of the cases studied.

    I don't see why this would be a problem. As long as he can meet the physical demands of the test(s), getting through the academy, and the job in general, then he should be okay.
