oh yea, just thought I should say that the one of the cops that I rode with as a cadet in Matteson, who was a former harvey officer, was made an officer-in-charge by matteson after being there for only a couple of years. He was put in charge of officers that had been with matteson for 17 years and matteson only has 5 detectives and 1 of them is from Harvey. And in chicago heights of the 10 detectives they have, 2 were from Harvey. One of the officers in flossmoor who is on one of there specialized teams is a former harvey officer. So it cant be all bad.

I was a police cadet for Chicago Heights PD and Matteson PD, plus I know cops that worked at my Highschool from Flossmoor. EVERY one of those departments has former Harvey officer's in leadership positions (OIC's and detectives) when I asked why so many former Harvey officer's do so well in other departments I was told because their experience is unmatched. Harvey will prepare you for any department in the country, and that is guaranteed.

Maybe he should apply with Cicero PD.... heard that isn't corrupt at all

WHEN I START MY TOUR OF DUTY, GOD, WHEREVER CRIME MAY BE, AS I WALK THE DARKENED STREETS ALONE, LET ME BE CLOSE TO THEE. PLEASE GIVE ME UNDERSTANDING, WITH BOTH YOUNG AND OLD, LET ME LISTEN WITH ATTENTION, UNTIL THEIR STORY’S TOLD. LET ME NEVER MAKE A JUDGEMENT, IN A RASH OR CALLOUS WAY, BUT LET ME HOLD MY PATIENCE, LET EACH MAN HAVE HIS SAY. LORD, IF SOME DARK AND DREARY NIGHT, I MUST GIVE MY LIFE, LORD WITH YOUR EVERLASTING LOVE, PROTECT THE LOVED ONES IN MY LIFE.

I have a very good friend on Cicero PD, just because the city has had some corruption problems and the department has had some bad apples doesn't mean the whole department is ****. I mean honestly, how the hell can Chicago coppers talk so much crap about everyone but themselves? Chicago has had more corruption than any other city in the ****in country. The department is getting in trouble left and right, they have been in hot water over hiring gang bangers and under qualified applicants, etc. It's not going to stop me from trying to get on with them, most the department is clean. No one should really be pointing fingers at anyone until their own hand is clean. And any department that is flawless probably isn't real police anyway.

I remember several years back the Chicago PD came to Harvey to pick up a murder suspect and didnt bother to inform Harvey PD. A few minutes later those CPD officers where getting shot at and needed some Harvey tact officers to arrest their suspect for them. Guess some of these chicago coppers arent making their opinions bout harvey based on this incident.

Ok why would you want to work for a village where its own citizens are asking the Cook Co Sheriff to come in and take over police operations. Or how about the mayors security that happens to show up everytime an outside PD is in town doing surveillance on local SH*&Heads. Look you guys wanna work for Harvey go ahead just dont come back to say we all told yah so.

Let me clarify, I was not intending to imply that the Harvey PD is some great, respectable department. Nor was I in any way trying to even suggest that they were as capable as the CPD (Chicago PD is my dream job), I was merely trying to point out that if someone could not find police work anywhere else and had to except a job in Harvey, there can be a light at the end of the tunnel, and Harvey has produced quality officers in the past. I did not mean to disrespect anyone, just trying to show multiple sides of the spectrum.

Any department that has the manpower to have 12 officers respond to any given incident (CPD) will obviously be very capable. It's my dream job too, but only for bragging rights and because I grew up here. They are no way the best equipped, trained, qualified, payed, or respected department. This is the same department that the city ****s in every way possible, the CPD's pension fund is like Chicago's personal piggy bank that never needs to be replenished.

See the part where I said that those three depts have been taken over or that there has been talk about taking them over from a sheriffs dept or ISP?

You just said the same thing I already said.

Seems like Harvey can be quite busy...as to no surprise.

Post Office Requests Police Escort After Violence Stops Service For Two Weeks

Dana Kozlov HARVEY, Ill. (CBS) ― Dozens of mailboxes remain empty after the post office suspends service in one south suburban neighborhood. Some people get angry when their mail is late. But in Harvey, people have been waiting for days and days. They're not getting any mail at all. CBS 2's Dana Kozlov reports that one mail carrier in Harvey feels threatened.

The U.S. Post Office seems to think that this is one of the most dangerous blocks in the country. People who live on it say they haven't gotten any mail delivered to their homes in almost two weeks.

Venus Jones is one of them.

"Between robberies and shootings and delayed police response, several things going on, that would make it unsafe," said Harvey resident Venus Jones.

One of those shootings on the morning of October 10th reportedly happened yards away from the mail carrier. That's when the mail stopped on Marshfield between 151st and 152nd streets, but the post office didn't tell anyone.

"Some of the people didn't even know that it was being held at the post office," Jones said.

Now Jones, who says her own home has been broken into three times in 30 days is talking to her neighbors about the mail problem and what should happen next.

Jones says someone from the post office told her they were going to put a cluster box for mail at the corner of 152nd and Marshfield. But she says that's not a good idea.

"We have a lot of elderly people, a lot of older people that's working, and for us to have to go to that corner to pick up our mail, that's unsafe for us," Jones said.

But Harvey spokesperson Sandra Alvarado says just today the postal service requested a police officer meet a mail carrier tomorrow. But lots of residents say the bigger issue here is a lax police department.

"It's something that we will look into. We take every complaint very seriously," Alvarado said. "We want to make sure that our residents feel safe."

Same thing happened on Chicago's southside a while back, except the mail carrier actually got hit. They said they have been proclaiming for years that their route is a "war zone" and the police "refused to help". I remember it on Fox news, it was possibly Englewood.
