I'm checking out Gwinnett Co., but I'm really a smaller town cop. Any small cities or towns hiring, like under 25000 people?

Milton is about 20k people, Alpharetta is around 45k people and Johns Creek is more like 60k people. Sandy Springs and Roswell are 80k+ people. They are all affluent north fulton municipal departments with 75-150 officers, that offer excellent pay and benefits compared to most other metro agencies."Would I ever leave this company? Look, I'm all about loyalty. In fact, I feel like part of what I'm being paid for here is my loyalty. But if there were somewhere else that valued loyalty more highly, I'm going wherever they value loyalty the most. " --Dwight K Schrute (The Office)Comment

according to your profile you're not any kid of cop. how do you know you'd rather work small town? i can say from experience a medium to large dept is the way to go.
depts like milton/sandy springs/johns creek are only gonna want to hire GA POST cert guys. at least until they are well established and fully staffed.Perseverate In PugnaComment

There are several depts. hiring in Ga. You can go to georgia.gov and find all counties in this state. Go to the web sites and check out the depts.Comment

Oops, sorry. I forgot to update my profile from over a year ago. I am a Deputy working the Parks and Rec. division in Michigan. I sent my request to transfer and all my certs to POST. I'm just waiting till my they get back to me.
Thanks for the info.Last edited by Ejohnson; 06-05-2008, 11:43 AM.Comment

Kingsland is growing. I believe the city is buying a large portion of land, which would make it the 7th largest city in GA. I am not sure of the details but you can google it. Valdosta and Thomasville are also around that area and are growing.Comment

Just throwing some other info out there: Valdosta PD and Lowndes Co. Sheriff's Office have come together to build a new state-of-the-art crime lab. It's supposed to be the most advanced lab south of Macon area.Comment

Thomasville usually hires a few officers a year and sends most to the academy. Just hired one the other week (already certified) and will be another opening within the week.
Great agency, great equipment and as much training as you can be sent to. SWAT, Bike Patrol, SRO, Dive, CID and Crime Scene are all specialty unit assignments.

I contacted Kingsland today to get some information. The representative I spoke to sounded very "holier than thou" like he had a chip on his shoulder.
This rep. was already telling me if you don't maintain current fitness standards (nothing at all wrong with being fit, mind you) how he will "take your badge and send you walking."
It was probably just me,(and I really do have thick skin) but the conversation was a turn off from the beginning.
I hope your experience proves better!Comment

Try Brunswick Police Department. It is a small police department that iis very community oriented. Brunswick police .org is the wb siteComment

Kingsland annexed approximately 15,000 acres into city limits. I believe it is the land mass that makes it the 7th largest city. The city limit signs have been moved and we now have that area to patrol (albeit rural and years away from completed development). The future growth in population is being met with a growth in department size. KPD is actively hiring."Courage, sacrifice, determination, commitment, toughness, heart, talent, guts.
